Pocket carried today.
« on: August 27, 2007, 07:21:35 PM »
So I went to the store for something a little while ago, and in addition to the Taurus 617 .357 I carried IWB, I decided to pocket carry another pistol in the left front pocket. You know what I carried?
My Rock Island Government 1911. ;D No, I'm not kidding. It fits in the front Pockets of my 5.11 Tactical pants pretty nicely. Had to carry it behind my wallet. If I carry it just stuffed in my pocket, It prints like a copy machine. I'd like to get a piece of leather and make myself a pocket holster for it so it won't print when I carry it in the pocket.

Well you were certainly ready!

This is the full size RI not their compact?

The guys on this forum can give you the name of a former PO that makes pocket holsters.  Mike something I believe.

Yup, it's the full size. I carried it just for the Hell of it. Didn't have one in the chamber and it don't have an Ambi Safety on it. I don't know how I could've done anything with it with my left hand that way. It was really just to see how well I could pull it off.  Hopping the back fence of my yard didn't cause it to bother me a bit. Without a holster, it could possibly rock back for the butt to stick out of the pocket a bit (It didn't cause my wallet held it in place really well, but it could have.), and like I said it'll print if there's nothing between the gun and the pocket.

Say, I wonder if I could make a Pocket holster for it that was an IWB, too.....

Walter,

Michael passed right over the RI when talking about inexpensive .45s!

Inexpensive reliable starts at 600?

Michael, you're a good man, no matter what they say about you! I love mine. I got it for $300 from a guy I went to High school with. only jams I ever had from it were from a worn out Recoil spring and a worn out extractor. I'd carry the thing if I had a good concealment holster for it. I'm looking forward to hearing the review on it when you get one.
