Newbie question....
What is the difference in the XD and XDM?

Most significant differences - barrel length is 4.5 inches and the barrel is match grade, better grip design, less trigger travel and the back strap is adjustable via three inserts. Someone summed it up pretty well when the stated the designers worked on the XD to make it extremely reliable and the XDm is tweaking the package for better performance.  Police forces are taking a much more serious look at the XDm platform because of the increased performance and accuracy as well as the grip adjustibility.  When the .45 XDm hits the market, it will replace my XD as my duty pistol.
Anti: I think some of you gentleman would choose to apply a gun shaped remedy to any problem or potential problem that presented itself? Your reverance (sic) for firearms is maintained with an almost religious zeal. The mind boggles! it really does...

Me: Naw, we just apply a gun-shaped remedy to those extreme life threatening situations that call for it. All the less urgent problems we're willing to discuss.

It's been out for awhile now, around here they have them in stores that can't even get all the Glocks they want, so there must be a butt load of them.

While on a little vacation, I found and bought a Ruger LCR. When I got back home, I went to my usual gun shop and bought the XD-40 sub-compact. Hopefully, next week I'll be able to shoot the LCR and report back. The LCR feels VERY GOOD. Trigger is sweet!
The XD-40 sub-compact feels good, but even without a mag inserted, weighs as much as my fully loaded Glock 22.
I have carried it on my hip most of the day and it actually rides comfortably.

My recommendation is a SS Loaded Champ. Not one hiccup ever. If you are considering a 1911.
