Gun Law Question
« on: April 19, 2009, 01:35:52 AM »
Hello Everyone:

In Maryland we are only allowed to buy one hand gun per month.  What are the laws in some of the states you live in?  Can you make a multiple purchase at one time?  Can you bring the gun home with you the day you purchase it?

Thanks
John

Yes,
In some states we can choose, purchase & carry out the door  (Brady check aka 4473 form approval) in the same day. :-* The gun laws are very different state to state & how many firearms can be purchased at one time. It is an ATF agreement within those state bylaws as to stautes and governing agencies willing to use common sense.
We are one of the fortunate states here in the Nevada to have the wonderful selections without the government "getting in our hair" of making choices of the firearms for us....
Good luck!

Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can praise them, disagree with them, quote them, disbelieve them, glorify or vilify them. The only thing you can’t do is ignore them

Try living in Australia

What's up with that phil? I've always wondered? I mean when it comes to a fronteir mindset, rugged individualism, general toughness and self reliance and healthy distrust of authority, you lot seem to have us beat hands down. I don't think even the most nationalist members of this board would argue when I say that y'all have a reputation (your avatar aside) from being some of the toughest bastards on the planet. Yet even in California and the American Northeast, gun control laws like yours wouldn't pass the giggle test. Hell, even Obama, one of the most liberal presidents in living memory with astronomical approval ratings and comfortable majorities in both houses knows better than to try (in the short term anyway) to try to ban AK-47s for God's sakes. What happened that Port Author caused everyone down there to "go all wobbly"? It just seems incongruent with the culture. Just curious.

In Minnesota there isn't a limit.  You need to have a "permit to acquire" or a "concealed carry permit" for either a handgun or a PIF (I think the State's description of PIF goes back to the Clinton gang).  However, while I can't buy a handgun in South Dakota and bring it back, I can buy an AR, or the like, as a long gun and bring it back with no permits.

I have bought as many as three handguns in a day from gun shops.  However, we have a "big box" that won't sell you more than one gun (of any type) every five days.  I asked what they would do if I bought a pair, like when I did my vaquaros?  The salesman said there are ways to break the rules, and they just do it at the manager shift changes or coffee breaks.  I said thanks and went to another dealer.
If I appear taller than other men it is because I am standing on the shoulders of others.

NH, Which is in the "North East which keeps getting slammed because of Ma and NY, Pay for however many guns, fill out ATF form, NICS call, then go shooting. No permit to buy or own, no sales tax, no registration and no ammo restrictions. All NFA weapons are OK as well. You do have to get a permit to carry concealed, but as it's only $10 and"shall issue" within 14 days it's no big deal.Only place carry is restricted are School buildings and Federal buildings.

In Pa. you can buy a handgun no restrictions on how many (no permit) buy a holster and walk out the door wearing your gun (open carry). If you want a concealed carry permit go to your local sheriff's office and get one the same day (Shall issue state).
IDPA, NRA (IF YOU DON'T STAND BEHIND OUR MILITARY PLEASE STAND IF FRONT OF THEM!!!)

Hmm... maybe your sheriff will issue same day, but mine requires two friends or neighbors to say you're not out in your yard nekkid and howling at the moon for no reason*, and he will run a criminal check on you.

*werewolves are exempt from this requirement.
Anti: I think some of you gentleman would choose to apply a gun shaped remedy to any problem or potential problem that presented itself? Your reverance (sic) for firearms is maintained with an almost religious zeal. The mind boggles! it really does...

Me: Naw, we just apply a gun-shaped remedy to those extreme life threatening situations that call for it. All the less urgent problems we're willing to discuss.
