Baby Desert Eagle
« on: April 20, 2009, 10:30:52 AM »
While I was in the gun store yesterday the guy who was helping me put one of these in my hand. It was the last gun he showed me...he was showing me polymer pistols and we were talking and he said...I'd buy one of these in a heartbeat and put this all steel pistol in my hand. It felt really good and was the same price range as the Glocks and Sigs he had. Anyone ever tried one out? He said they used to have one in the rental case but someone came in and bought it!

I own of the original Jericho 941 guns (with both 9mm and .41 AE setups). They are pretty cool guns.... and I think thatthis design is one of the most comfortable grip shapes/angles ever made. Unfortunately, it comes at the cost of a less than optimum efficient operation in the double/single design and they are a bit heavy.

You should ask to shoot it and see if you like it.

Thanks Rob,
Can you explain what you mean by "less than optimum efficient operation in the double/single action design"?
I think it's weight was one reason it felt better to me. I can't carry concealed in California (can't show "just cause") so this wouldn't be used for that. Probably home defense, hunting camp type of use.
I'm probably heading back to the gun store Wednesday to see about deciding between a .357 mag like the SW 686 or Ruger GP100 or one of the semi-auto pistols I was shooting the other day on their range.

The inconsistent trigger pull between single and double action and the need to operate the decocker after shooting make it less efficient than other designs.

A little harder to use and to learn to use well, but not an insurmountable issue by any means, if it fits you well and you shoot it well.

Any opinions on the Ruger P345. I just bought one and its a whole lot of fun. I think it will make a very good home defense piece as well as a pack gun.

MAuser,

If you don't mind, please start a new topic on that .... that'll give everyone a chance to see it, chime in and find it in a search later!

Thanks.

Essentially, it is the same gun as the CZ-75, and the EAA Witness.  I also have the IMI SP-21 and the Desert Eagle in 44MAG.  Guess I'm just an IMI fan.  I would rate the Bable Eagle better than my CZ-75, but not as good as my higher dollar EAA Witness.  The Witness comes in different quality grades.  I have the EAA Witness Elite Match, and for a few dollars more is a superior gun in fit, finish, and precision.

Uh, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Baby Eagle - just in case I wasn't clear.

I've had this one for a little over a year now and it has run flawlessly. I doubt you can find a stronger, more ruggedly constructed all steel pistol for the money. The newer models even come with an accessory rail for Lasers, lights, and such.  Bill T.

Had a Baby Eagle .40 for several years. It was my first gun and I loved it. Could not find holsters or mags without undue effort. Somewhat lower capacity in the offered calibers. Insanely accurate,  but horribly gritty trigger. Heavy DA and unpredictible SA pull. Traded it for a PT1911. Never looked back till I found one of the newer models kinda want one again. Any way hope you get it and love it...
