How to kill a raccoon

I need to kill a raccoon. I will use a .22 rifle with whatever .22LRs I happen to grap and load at the moment. Where is the best placement for a one shot quick kill on a raccoon.

The soft spot Right behind the ear, you pick which one. Warning, I have killed raccoons dead on the spot with a .45 through the head, and they won't fall out of the tree. These were shot while they were playing possum, from then on I shot the limb under them to make them get up, then through the head. I would not trust a 22 rf to penetrate the skull deep enough, therefore the ear shot.

     Last one I killed was between the eyes @ about 10FT. With a RUGER 22/45 seemed to work.

If you are close enough- 25/50 feet I highly recommend the Aguila .22 SSS (subsonic).

 60 grains of lead in a shortened case with hardly any powder.

Quiet and really hard hitting. 

Shoots to the same point of aim (at 25/50 feet ) as the regular CCI Standard Velocity .22 LR. at 25 yards.

Between the eyes or in back of the head always works for me.  I've never had any problem with skull density deflecting a shot.

I used to keep them out of local cornfields, etc....sold the hides and the meat for High School spending money and had to take the head shot.  Also had to leave 1 foot on the carcass as some of the boys were selling skinned cats.

I +1 the hard hitting part but disagree with the quiet. I was told about these and went to the range to check zero.....forgot hearing protection and shot anyway. Will not do that again man. Much louder than standard vel. CCI but not as bad as stingers or velociters. Stingers which would be my #1 pick, because i have head tapped a coyote with and dropped on-the-spot. Actually took more coyotes with Stingers/Ruger10/22/Reddot combo than anything else.

Cats.. like house cats? or cats like bobcats...

Coons are good eating... Cook them slowly like you do beef roast ... Make sure you get a young one if you want some good eats..

H-O-U-S-E  cats.  Like tabbies, persians, manx, etc.  Some guys would go to the local dumps and barns and collect cats to sell the meat....as I heard, cat does not taste like coon...though I've never eaten either.

I have heard that cougar meat is excellent, but being allergic to cats I'll never know.

Use the Stingers if they can kill a deer( I know I have) they can kill a coon. My friend shoot one with standard 22's and all it did was make it mad of course it weighed 50 pounds!

My best friend used to hunt coons years ago, and we used .22 shorts so we don't hurt the hide. We'd shoot them in the head. Killed many of them and never had a problem. Brings back good memories, may he rest in peace.
