Habitat For Humanity Homes are Falling Apart

According to the Sunday Times, homes built by the Habitat for Humanity are falling apart. Even the homes that the Hollywood stars have built are crumbling. Residents are complaining that there are crumbling walls, mildew, skin rashes, cockroaches, and rats infesting the houses. It was noted that one man in Florida lifted up the floorboards of his home to realize that it was built on about five feet of rubbish from a dump. Eww!! The article also says that instead of the homes being built by professionals, volunteers are building them. This supposedly corrupts the structure in its entirety and is the cause of all the destruction.
Thomas Jefferson: The strongest reason for the people to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against the tyranny of government. That is why our masters in Washington are so anxious to disarm us. They are not afraid of criminals. They are afraid of a populace which cannot be subdued by tyrants."

But they mean well.  For liberals it truly is the thought that counts.   ;D ;D

Shouldn't he be confined somewhere with the other alzheimer patients?

thats intresting , I've been on a Few HH builds, other then having to deal with people that had no idea what they were doing,,,

The 1st time I kicked about 5 of the "helpers" off the paint crew.   No doubt the building inpsectors let them get away with mruder.  maybe its diffrent out here, as a GC must over see the build, he must put his name. his lic and his bond up just like if he was building a normal house.
I always break all the clay pigeons,  some times its even with lead.

I will give a +1 for Habitat being a great charity. I did my college internship in the marketing dept of their corporate offices.

They are a very well run charity. (at a corporate level - I have never done a build site) They have a great deal of brain power working for them, and it really showed during my time there. They are very efficient. The full time people they employ are totally committed to their cause, and it was obvious that many of them gave up much more lucrative careers for the sake of the cause. They are also 100% legit - the money you donate goes 100% to where you designate it to be spent. Another thing I have always liked about Habitat, is that they dont just give away houses. Those people that receive homes are very well screened and are in real need. Then they are expected to work on the build of their house for at least x-amount of hours.... and they are expected to take on a mortgage (one tailored to their situation) and actually pay for their house - They dont just give away houses, but rather help people get themselves a house.

As far as Carter is concerned, he was really never anything more then publicity for them. It is urban legend that he started Habitat and made it into what it is, but he did not (it was founded by Millard and Linda Fuller). Carter gave them a national spotlight and allowed them to spread their message, but he didnt really do a damn thing as far as actually contributing to the running of the charity. He was basically just a mascot for them.

I first heard about Habitat through the show "Hometime" with Dean Johnson out of Minnesota.  After that, seems Carter got involved.  It always looked like a good cause but with anything, your going to have some problems as building codes differ greatly all over the country.

Regardless, I share Mr. Bogan's opinion of the peanut farmer ex-president, my former active duty CINC......STFU...

I've often been disappointed in hearing and learning about Jimmy Carter. This one is the worst of all though. He probably don't even know what the heck he's talking about. And a lot of what he's saying there isn't true. He needs to get his facts straight. What a goober.  :(

I think old jimmy is trying to reinvent himself, that is the first I ever heard of him hunting. As a liberal with obvious senility he can claim anything he wants, it is just a shame that anyone cares what he has to say.

Jimmy boy is a well known hunter...remember the story when a rogue rabbit attacked him while he was canoeing...he had to defend himself with a paddle....A LARGE BORE PADDLE !
