What do you think about this flu stuff?
« on: April 29, 2009, 08:14:54 PM »
I am listening to all of the news and am starting to get a little ansy. In case you didn't already catch it, we are at a level 5, which means a pandemic is eminent. Ya might want to get masks right quick if you don't have any. It's airborne.
It sounds like we're headed for something the likes of which we haven't seen in my lifetime.  I hope I'm wrong...But O was on the tube, discussing it just now...That's not a good sign.  I heard that the national news was saying that it would be a good idea to have a 10-day supply of food on hand, (which isn't a problem for me)  in the event that public venues were shut down.  What has anyone else heard?

Mrs. Gringo and I canceled our Cancun vacation.   :(  We were set to fly out on the 15th of May but yesterday made the decision that it was probably the worst time to go to there.  Even if we didn't get sick, the possibility of a very difficult flight and getting safely back outweighed the disappointment.

Besides it's been 90 degrees in New England lately.

Personally Teresa, I think it's getting blown way out of proportion.  It wouldn't hurt to be prepared which you already are but on the bright side, Howard, KS is far enough away from a large metro area that you should be fine.

I live 50 miles from Boston, 30 miles from Providence, 15 miles from Worcester and 60 miles from Hartord and Springfield.  I'm staying away from large shoping areas and keeping to my self for the most part.  I work in an office of four men with nearly 1200 sq ft and sanitize everything every morning and if I leave for lunch, just a precation for me because I have so much metal in my body from my accident.

I wash my hands or use a towlet constantly, but I do that anyway....

Hang in there young lady, you've got that strapping man to look after ya... ;)

Well..... Its the flu.... and TamiFlu clears it right up.

Like I posted in the other thread.... Regular flu kills 36,000 Americans each year, and thousands since January
http://www.cnn.com/2009/HEALTH/04/28/regular.flu/index.html

So far 1 has died in the US from Swine Flu. Yes, you might want to hide your kids and elderly, but right now it is far from a pandemic..... It really makes me wonder if this is some kind of big diversion or if they are trying to use this to make a play on something.

As with "most" "world" organizations, (like the UN, NATO,) I have reservations to the overall validity of their "opinion". Re: World Health Organization.

91 cases in the United States out of 300+million, is a statistical nothing.

PLUS, most of the cases here in the U.S. are recovering. The 8 kids in the school in NY, are all going to survive. The 23month old child came across the border sick and than died. (Not really an American fatality yet,..)

This "bug" responds to Tamiflu and Relenza which, in otherwise healthy people, is treatable.

Can it get worse? Sure, I won't doubt that, although the flu season is waning with the approach of summer. I did hear from a talking head that it may come back this fall/winter if not tamped down now.

We prepare, stay in touch, and I guess hand sanitizers will become more popular. All good advice.

I am hoping for the best.

That is why our masters in Washington are so anxious to disarm us. They are not afraid of criminals. They are afraid of a populace which cannot be subdued by tyrants."
