Judo anyone?
« on: May 06, 2009, 03:44:05 AM »
as some of you know, I have been a life long wrestler/ supporter/coach( infact I currently am a asst coach for a your program I started about 10 years ago)

With the slow down of the econ, I've had time to go back and coach as well as time for me to get some judo training in.( trying to keep up with the kids is very, very hard, I'm no where close to being a in wrestling shape.  The old, I can beat them on technique, but they are stronger, faster and have more air. )

I always break all the clay pigeons,  some times its even with lead.

How long has it been since you trained in Judo? Hit the weights and getting back in shape should help.  ;D

I've not done judo since HS.  I went from HS wrestling to free style, to greco and finally judo... repeat every year.

Hiting the wieghts really does not help when it comes to wrestling if your out of shape.   Its the whole package that needs work, mainly endurance.  best thing to do is grab a few partners and go live every day for atleast a hour.   running 1-2 miles as fast as you can is also very helpful.  anymore and you just strip your upper body.

it also does not help that many of these kids have had 10-12 years of strait training.  I on the other hand, while working in construction makes you strong in many ways.  wrestling shape is like nothing else.

I teach Karate as part of the after school program at the Charter School I help run. It took me a while to get back to (and I am not quite there yet) the cardio shape to do the workouts without the fear of having to dial 911. Fortunately, I am at an age to have patience.

Yeah, I mean, just look at your avatar. You look like a girl.

Me: Naw, we just apply a gun-shaped remedy to those extreme life threatening situations that call for it. All the less urgent problems we're willing to discuss.

He sure does look like a girl. Is TAB short for Tight Apple Bottom?

running 1-2 miles as fast as you can is also very helpful.  anymore and you just strip your upper body.

Running more miles with intermittent sprints, like 400's or 600's, and returning to running would do better than fast 1-2 miles

...but what do I know, I'm fat and out of shape.  though my 55 year old friend, who is in really good shape runs as such.

I wrestled in high school and college but the judo lessons with Dr. P-jobb were some of the best training I ever did.

I would recommend finding a Crossfit trainer if you want to get in shape. We have one disciple of theirs here at work and it really seems to have made a difference with him.
