WOULD YOU BUY A 1911 BY RUGER

Tom Gresham mentioned on his radio show that someone new was coming out with a 1911.  He thought it was Remington.  Seems like it may have actually been Ruger. 

I wonder why Remington doesn't get into handguns?

Poor guy is the only one here not complaining about the price.  If its too expensive don't buy it, at least we have the option.

I would assume this line of questioning was based on what is next in the design pipe line, not what will be released at the NRA Convention.

There is no point in going through all the design, alpha and beta testing then manufacturing if nobody is interested in a Ruger 1911.

I hope MB and the Marshal's are at least getting a dinner for their Voice of the Customer survey.

PS I wouldn't buy a Ruger gas piston AR either if they asked me last year.

Good design, with many parts I'd install on a plain AR15.

Still, I have two questions:
1- why not a folding stock?  If you're going with a 16" barrel, and a piston gas system, why not take advantage of it and install a folder? (unless it still uses the butt recoil spring and can't)

2- why a 1:9 barrel?  Since bullet use seems to be evolving to heavier weights, why not a 1:7 barrel?

You're right, this thread did run amok with all the speculation.  Now to answer the question, If I were in the market for a 1911, I would consider a Ruger 1911.

The 1911 design is nearly 100 years old, the cost to develope would be minimum compared to bringing a new concept or product to production.  I understand that Ruger's casting division cast some parts for other firearms companies and I wouldn't be surprised if they have already cast 1011 frames.  Yes there are many 1911s to choose from, but one with the Ruger name on it I think would do well in market share.  There is a lot of brand loyalty which could translate into $ales.
