M1 Carbine
« on: May 12, 2009, 09:18:57 PM »
First, is an M1 Carbine worth having and 2 hear is the deal... Is it worth it? An Inland M1 Carbine in Good condition with 500 rounds of ammo for under $600?

I'm glad to see the back of mine. It had 600 rounds in clips, rarely fired and was fun to shoot, but why? Too light to be an effective carbine or hunt with, too expensive to shoot really heavily. If you like the looks and action just get a mini-14 or mini-30. At least that way you've got an effective 100yd weapon.

Yes it's worth having, even more so with that kind of a deal. If well cared for, it will go up in value and be a fun shooter.

And, at the rate things are going, the 500 rounds of ammo alone will soon be worth the asking price for the whole package.

If the numbers match it's worth more, but from what I've read in the last few months on M-1 Carbines, then yes it's worth it.

I don't think you will find a "handyer" gun then the M1 carbine.  Infact I'd rather have one for CQB then I would a AR.

It's a piece of history.    In today's market that's a good price especially with the ammo.

A couple of things to look for besides the serial numbers.

If it was re-imported after 1968, it'll have the importer's name stamped on the barrel.   While my IBM might be worth a lot it's devalued heavily because of the "Blue Star" stamped into the barrel.

The rear sights where upgraded, I think during the Korean war era.  If your has original sights it would be worth more, though the "newer" sights are more usable/practical IMHO.
