Taking a female friend to the range
« on: May 14, 2009, 09:12:41 PM »
I took a girl I go to school with to the range the other day so she could shoot and do a little more than police explorer program would let her do.  I took a Ruger MKII, a S&W K22, a S&W 1917 repro in 38, A some what modified S&W 649 body gaurd, a Kahr K-9 in 9mm, and my 38 super 1911. She shot a ful magazine or cylinder out of each one. I told her she should get a 22 for practice and learning fundamentals, and I then asked wich one she like the best.  To my surprise she wanted to keep shooting the 38 super. I packed up everything else and let her shoot every round I brought. At 20 feet not one shot strayed out side the 7 ring of the b-27 target. There is now another confirmed shooter among us.  Other than how to handle and shoot them I did not coach her as to wich she should get, I let her decide.  It proves to me patience and a non judgemental attitude is the way to go.  We need more women in the sport simply because they decide what sports their children will play.  If they enjoy guns, the better for us.

Congratulations, and nice job.

Thank you Cancerman, I am doing the same thing with a co-worker and his fiance this Sat. Total Newbies...but serious about wanting a firearm.

Seems more folks I know, would just like to be familiar with how to handle a firearm, and have one. Whether it's a .22, or a .38. I am running across folks I know, that want to learn to shoot and handle a firearm. Those of us with exp. should put in the extra .02 cents to make sure the new gun owners, enthusiasts; "rookies", get pointed in the right direction, SAFETY, Range etiquette, SAFETY, training and courses.

NRA, training, practice, and range time with someone who has shot thousands, and thousands, of rounds, who has PATIENCE, will help the greater good for us all as gun owners. Cancerman, you got the right idea...

I will be happy to provide my exp. (until they get a pro lesson), on the fundamentals.  Plus she is a babe, and a babe with a pistol is well,, very nice to watch from behind. ::)

Just doing my part for the new gun owners out there..........

That is why our masters in Washington are so anxious to disarm us. They are not afraid of criminals. They are afraid of a populace which cannot be subdued by tyrants."

I agree Tw, women with weapons make me a little randy.  To bad this one  is half my age, that would just be creepy and wrong.

I should meet her mother.

I have found patience is the way to go along with simple guidance.  The last thing they want is a "man" telling them what they should and shouldn't do.

It has been my experience that mostly, women are easier to teach than men.

Good job, C-man.

I expect it will come in the disease form, though. I'm susceptible to diseases, and you can't shoot a damned disease." ~ Judge Roy Bean, Streets of Laredo

It's always nice to hear about when a newbie gets "hooked". Nice job...seems like fun too, at half your age!

Sounds like a job well done Cancerman.
I have taken newbies, "women" three times and they were great students. The first one had a terrible fear of guns. Just to hold them emptly she would shake so bad I thought she would drop it. Took it slow and she ended up doing a great job.

She now has here CCW and is showing some friends and co-workers, mostly women the joys of "GUNS"

I agree Pegleg. Women are more open to what your trying to do and don't have the preconcieved ideas of some folk.
