you mean we were lied to? or were we misinformed for political reasons?
this hust doesn't surprise me at all. remember, Mexico does random inspections according to a machine that has two lights, red and green. as you pass it either turns red and you go to the inspection station, or green and you pass. also, they have inspection stations further from the border, usually about 50 miles or so, so those that have been able to bypass the border get checked before they can head into the interior of the country. fairly closely regulated from the north. I've driven to Veracruz from Texas and to Guaymas from San Diego and every time needed to get a permit to travel to the interior, including two thorough inspections. not just looking for guns though, anything that may not have been taxed when crossing, plus other contraband.
I cannot believe that with these regulations and the obviously very honest cops in Mex that any large quantity of guns make it into the country. (note some sarcasm in that last).
just my $.02
