My Ammo complaint
« on: May 19, 2009, 04:08:15 PM »
This is getting to be stupid. Why is there no ammo?? If the ammo manufactures see that all the ammo they are making is selling out then why are there not extra shifts at the plant being worked.

Is Obama's evil plan to run us all out of ammo so then he can take us over with less a fight? ;)

But seriously 4 months now I have gone to the stores around where I live and no .45 ACP. I got a whole box of 100 (their limit)  9mm from Wal-Mart a couple weeks ago.

Will is this be the ammo crisis we talk about 10 years from now?

Did we win???

I was wondering if maybe quietly the Feds upped their contracts with the ammo manufacturers, say doubling it, to stockpile and also to distribute to the front line troops in the subjugation of the American people - oops, I meant the LEOs.

I was pleasantly surprised by a local gun range Sat. that had target ammo (even .380!) I just checked gilbertsguns.com, and they have .40, and 9mm, 5.7, but no .45

I get lucky at gun shows, get there early, and find what I want (can afford) and just keep quietly lurking around. Local Bass Pro had Golden Sabre .45's and that it.

But I scored Federal .45's at the last show,Natchez.com, gilbertsguns has 9mm & 40 right now, ammoman, keep the faith, timing is critical but it is coming around.

Yes, I'm getting quite an eclectic assortment of different ammos.

.45 ACP, .357 Mag and .38 spl in Remington GS, WWB, Sellior & Bellot, Blazer, American Eagle, Federal HS and some cheap stuff in a white and blue box, can't remember the name.  Maybe 500 rounds total.  The SIL has about 1000 rounds each of various .40 S&W and 9mm and ammo cans of .223 stashed in the safe downstairs.

Buy 50 here, 100 there, whatever we come across that's not too expensive.  My local FFL has plenty but geez he's getting 43 bucks for 100 WWB in .45.  I've been too busy to shoot much but I'm getting itchy....

Being at war doesn't help with ammo production, but we had been at war for several years before the shortages started.
BHO and the election outcome started the gun and ammo run.
People panicked.
Prices went up, even after raw material prices fell way down
Supply went down.

I'm not saying that stocking up (hoarding ?) is wrong. Hell, buy when you find it.
It was the folks that normally don't buy large amounts of ammo per year who started buying more than normal that hurt. Not the ones who had already been buying large quantities for normal usage.

In a round about way, when it comes to the ammo shortage and resulting exorbitant pricing, the gun folks kinda shot our selves in the foot.
If people had continued buying at the same quantities as before the election, then it might not be as bad now as it is, but it would still be worse than it was, due to the onslaught of 'new gun owners' and first timers. They went out and bought guns, and that is good overall for the gun community. But, they also needed ammo, which dipped into the ammo pool.

That's pretty much going rate these days.

To me it just seems that Ammo companies should be going for broke. They could be making above and beyond what they are. I know OSHA stepped in a while ago and I dont know if there laws preventing them from doubling there efforts Like you cant load ammo after 6PM or something.

And great we got all these new gun owners!! But they dont get to learn how to shoot or defend themselves cause they cant get ammo.

Also this ridiculous price gouging is so stupid. All gun shops that are doing or business's that are doing this are screwing their own. Sometimes people higher up forget how close our community is. You might make a buck now, but in 6 months a year or however long, pending no crisis, it will go back to the way it was. And us true enthusiast are all that there is again, we will all remember.

There are places right now around me that I wont go to anymore cause they have lost touch with who has been there for them all these years leading up to Obama.

Really this is just one more reason why I hate this guy. Why cant other people see that he is ruining everything good Americans like.

There was a time when I thought George Bush was going to be the worst president I would ever see in my life, and that America was at its lowest point ever. But I think we are at it. People are buying so much ammo that there is literally none out there at times. Doesnt this point out that we are afraid of something really bad happening. Something so bad that we may need to protect the ones we love with a bullet.

I have never seen more stores carrying disaster supplies in all my 27 years of life. What does that say about how people feel about where they live. What does it say about those who are governing us. To me it shows 1. They wont be there to help if and when you need it, and 2. They may be the cause of it so we gotta be prepared to fend for ourselves.

Maybe I am reading into "Ammo Shortage 2009" too much, but...
Did we win???

I've been buying ammo here and there when I can find it at a reasonable price.  I think I bought one box of .380 that was a little steep in price, because it was the only one I had seen in some time and I didn't have much on hand.
One of my coworkers stopped at a small gunshop near his home that is a long way out of my way.  This guy has always seemed to have reasonable prices on his guns.  I have stopped and bought a few things from him in the past when I can get there which is not often.  The owners philosiphy is to have reasonable prices and turn the stock over rather than sit on it at high prices for months or years.  My coworker stopped the other day and they had a fairly good selection of ammo at reasonable prices although there was a limit of 1 box of .380 per customer.  Not sure if there were limits on other calibers.   While my coworker was there a guy came in and wanted to buy all the ammo they had and offered $4.00/ box more than what it was marked.  The owner refused to sell for a quick profit.  Kind of restores your faith that there are still good people out there that aren't just out for the quick buck.  I'll definitely check with them for any future firearms purchases.

Sorry KSail, ammo is at it's greatest demand Probably of all time, new people buying not only firearms, but AR's, AK's, and firearms that accept 20+ rounds are at an all time high, and they have accepted that they need this firearm and 1,000 rounds of ammo, per each firearm. My local wally worlds shelves have nothing except obscure ammo, 17 HMR,  a few .22rf rounds, but lots of shotgun ammo, the thread on shotgun ammo is very viable, buy that if you have a shotgun, it has increased, but not by much. Get on Midways email list, I just bought 300 rds of .223, 100 .45 acp  and 100 9mm. They are limiting you to 100 rounds of anything, so in .223 I bought different bullet weights to get me to 300, pistol was very limited. But I got what I could, be ever vigilant at this time for ammo of any sort.

I'm not a hoarder, I built my stash a long time ago, but I don't want to break into it, so anything I cannot reload for, I buy new ammo and shoot that, if I run out, then I don't shoot. Sucks but that is how I see it, except for .22rf
