If it says "Marcas registradas ," it is no older than the late 60's early 70's, IF IT IS A GENUINE S&W ! Prior to WWII Spanish makers were faking EVERYTHING.

I would love to see a picture.

Does it look like this?

Thomas Jefferson: The strongest reason for the people to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against the tyranny of government. That is why our masters in Washington are so anxious to disarm us. They are not afraid of criminals. They are afraid of a populace which cannot be subdued by tyrants."
Col. Jeff Cooper.

If you can look at a copy of the book "Standard Catalog of Smith and Wesson" that may be able to help a lot with identifing it.
I was going to say check here: http://www.armchairgunshow.com/ but I see that Jim Supicais no longer there.  He wrote the book.
"We the people are the rightful masters of both Congress and the courts, not to overthrow the Constitution, but to overthrow the men who pervert the Constitution. "    Abraham Lincoln

Mystery solved. Its a late sixties model 10 and apparently worth $400 according to the S@W factory. This is more than I can spend so if anyone wants a nice Smith, make an offer and I'll pass it along to my friend. Thanks for the help.

Dead on again, there Tom.

"I expect perdition, I always have. I keep this building at my back, and several guns handy, in case perdition arrives in a form that's susceptible to bullets. I expect it will come in the disease form, though. I'm susceptible to diseases, and you can't shoot a damned disease." ~ Judge Roy Bean, Streets of Laredo

For the Patriots of this country, the Constitution is second only to the Bible for most. For those who love this country, but do not share my personal beliefs, it is their Bible. To them nothing comes before the Constitution of these United States of America. For this we are all labeled potential terrorists. ~ Dean Garrison

I have the same revolver in blue. Is a Model 10, made in 1967, 4". Was my dad's uncle's service revolver and the gun he committed suicide with :'(.  Until I aquired it from my grandfather, has been stored loaded in a sock drawer for 20 years unfired.
I took it apart, cleaned it up, lubed and reassembled.  Shoots very well, will be getting a speed scabbard holster, Hogue grips and speedloaders for it and using it to shoot Stock Service Pistol in IDPA.
It is time to wash the history from it :).
As a side note, after my great uncles death, my grandfather sent it back to S&W and had it completely factory refurbished and it looks and shoots as new.

Every time you use it for competition fun, remember him and that life is not only the bad that drove him to his act.

My Dad's uncle was a WWII veteran, I actually found his gravestone just 2 weeks ago, if I were at home writing this could tell you the Company he was in, he was Sargeant in Army.  It has taken me quite some time to even decide to shoot the gun, but my father encouraged me to do so after my grandfather passed away a few years ago. To be able to have a piece of family history that can not only continue to pass on the history, but honor a soldier, and teach my kids to shoot, so someday they may own it, I find amazing.

Honor the man and his service, MM.  Shoot it and pray for his soul.  He was a hero that got lost.
