RKBA Attack by Zoning
« on: May 31, 2009, 11:21:37 AM »
Another angle at attacking gun ownership has always been to shut down the places to shoot.   One of the outlying counties, far outlying counties, of Atlanta is Bartow county.  My two closest public ranges are located there.  I just noticed that these ranges are under attack by additional local legistlation.  Here's the appeal from one range owner.

Quote
As most of you know I (Joe Harris) operate Creekside Firing Range. The county that I am in has a hearing on Monday night at 6:00 p.m. in the courthouse. They have a new amendment that is going up in front of the planning and zoning committee. Of course there will be some there that want me shut down but there will also be plenty there in support of us. (snip) They are trying to control hours of operation, how many people shoot at one time, the rate of fire that can be shot. They are also trying to change the acreage that you must have, lengths from the property line, mandated bullet traps to their specs, and the big one is that no personal protection, law enforcement training, or special tactical shooting skills.

Bartow already prohibits any "police, security, military or para-military"  training at indoor ranges!!  They also have unreasonable hours especially for DST.

So this will be the next line of attack.  I'm sure anti-gunners are watching this one.

Like you said, this is one of the many ways to chisel away at guns.  We need to address each and everyone of them full force, and we can not let them wear us down with the constant barrage.

When it comes to further cases to battle a loss or restore lost Rights we need to look at regulations like "no personal protection, law enforcement training, special tactical shooting skills, police, security, military or para-military."  These are more applicable to the Second Amendment than the hunting tradition that most public officials and anti-gunners use to pacify us into giving up our Rights one by one.
If I appear taller than other men it is because I am standing on the shoulders of others.

Empowered by the Liberal Majority, the "minions" will continue to push, chip, nit pick, nibble, and try to get all the "smaller" victories they can by whatever "ordinance" they can to restrict gun laws or anything related to there use.

I hope the courthouse is flooded with support to not "overegulate" the range out of existence. (which is the goal).
Thomas Jefferson: The strongest reason for the people to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against the tyranny of government. That is why our masters in Washington are so anxious to disarm us. They are not afraid of criminals. They are afraid of a populace which cannot be subdued by tyrants."
Col. Jeff Cooper.
