Just a little update since we get the local Philly news channels. The neighborhood folks knew who the guy was and when he was spotted, they came out and according to the news, "Detained him using a piece of wood" until police arrived. Sounds like he got the 2x4 massage. Then they showed the child's parents on tv thanking the community for making the stop so that the guy got picked up. Heartwarming...even for Kensington.
I got the blues as my companion.

Detained him as many times as was necessary, lol.

I'm betting the twyacht is right, the cops just hung back just long enough to prevent needing to charge someone with murder. Hard to tell who did what in a crowd, after all.

Me: Naw, we just apply a gun-shaped remedy to those extreme life threatening situations that call for it. All the less urgent problems we're willing to discuss.

I hesitate to condone this type of thing.  Even if this was just and correct it is an example of how we can start down the slippery slope for wild packs of vigilantes.  All that said, when you have "justice" like is being discussed on the thread about the pharmacist and the two thugs going on this is what good citizens do to protect themselves from the criminals and the courts.

Don't take this post wrong and think I'm a flower child pacifist ... I have several different weights of "heavy metal" justice ready if you think you are going to do harm in my neighborhood.  I'm not out prowling, and even though our local police chief hates conceal carry, I'm thankful to live seven miles out of town and deal with a sheriff and deputies that have no problem with me and my guns and understand that my family and myself could be bagged, tagged and buried if we waited for them to get across the county to help.  Sometimes logistics dictate the need for citizen action, and sometimes an injured or broken system demands citizen action!

Today I read an update on this, the police are NOT going to charge any of the people with assault or any other charges.
The police chief seem happy that the citizens were able to detain him for the LEO to make there arrest.

Quote
A Philadelphia man wanted for questioning in the rape of an 11-year-old girl has been released from the hospital two days after being beaten by an angry mob.

Authorities say Jose Carrasquillo (kayr-uhs-KEE'-oh) is in police custody.

Carrasquillo has not been charged in the rape. But Commissioner Charles Ramsey says investigators have forensic evidence and witness identification placing him at the scene of Monday's attack.

Ramsey says he will not pursue criminal charges against the group of angry neighbors who beat Carrasquillo on Tuesday.

He says he made the decision based on the severity of the man's injuries. He also factored in the neighbors' intent and the high level of emotion in the community.

m58 your right, mob justice is a slippery slope that leads to an unlawful lynch mob that can too easily get out of control.

The crime was the "alleged" (PC application), rape of an 11 year old girl.  The locals know/ knew more than we will ever know.

These kinds of crimes make our blood boil, and restraint being shown for not executing him in the street as was/is done in other countries, makes us different from the savages that also stone girls for talking to boys without an adult escort.

A 2x4 "massage" is a nice touch, and remember, even prisoners don't like child molesting pedophiles. Justice may get to him in there as well.

Thomas Jefferson: The strongest reason for the people to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against the tyranny of government. That is why our masters in Washington are so anxious to disarm us. They are not afraid of criminals. They are afraid of a populace which cannot be subdued by tyrants."
