Question for you. I waited on S&W for my PPK/S due to larger beaver tail. Mine is sharp and begins to bite the web of my strong hand after about 50 rds. Have you had the same problem? Mine also worked flawlessly prior to sending it back. They still have both of mine, Regular and Aristocrat. Another thread said that the PPK/S was not meant to shoot hollow points. I've never had a problem with HPs. How about you?
Thanks and good to hear yours will be back soon. I sent mine off in late May so I'll have a while.

Hello Kid Shelleen, welcome to DRTV, I have not had an issue with the longer tang of the "beavertail". Usually it was the original Walther, or Interarms versions that had the infamous "bite". I do use the mag. extensions and have not had a "bite" issue. The S&W version I have would seem hard to get bit,

With bullet technology, I never heard of a PPK/S not "meant" to shoot hollowpoints. Even from the Walther forum.

I have fired a multitude of rds. through my PPK/S including HP's of all type's. Golden Sabre, Speer Gold Dot, although I prefer the ballistics of Cor-Bon DPX, or Hornady,  in .380, all JHP's have performed with no failures.  Even Georgia Arms.

Note: I did go to the range and "run" the pistol hard before I carried concealed. 100 rds. target ammo, 50 rds. carry ammo, clean, lube, repeat,(back when .380 ammo was more plentiful), to "break it in" ...etc,..

It does like to be clean, maybe the James Bond legacy has something to do with that, ::), but I hope to get it back with the same reliability I sent it to S&W with.

Hopefully, as S&W catches up, the turnaround time may "speed up" for both of us,..

Tom W.

Thanks Tom,

I've run through a lot of Hornady Critical Defense HPs and a lot of Federal Hydra Shok Hps as well. I have never had a jam with any ammo in this little jewel. That's why I've always trusted it for carry. I read about the supposed HP issue on a thread in one of the forums on this site. Despite my personal experience, it concerned me a little. Good to hear from a fellow PPK/S owner that you haven't had any problems either. The bite thing must be just my particular gun. Everyone that has shot it has had the bite marks to show for it. I've never shot my Aristocrat version. It's been a good investment and I've seen other unfired Aristocrats selling for twice what I paid for it.

I am not that familiar with the Aristocrat version. Is it different in a significant way? I say the Walther porn post and can't discern anything striking.

Regarding bite, gripping high is the rule, except from my own personal exp. with "smaller" pistols. My Kel-Tec P3AT for me, required a different approach to a grip and let's rip firing. Like the Walther, I have to "adjust" my trigger finger to not be too deep in the trigger guard. More of the tip than the pad of the finger. This lowers the "web" of the palm well below the tang to allow the slide to fire and reload without getting a piece of me in the process.

My larger pistols, are gripped high, but the girth of the handle "spreads out" the web of the palm.

I can't see why yours would be more prone to a bite "after 50 rds." could be an indicator of something, in the grip.

Just my .02 cents. Still hope they come back to you in short order, and not get sent to another owner. (OP)

Thanks for the tip. I'll try the lower grip. The edge of the lower portion of the beaver tail is sharp and just begins to dig in after a while. The Aristocrat is engraved. The Pic doesn't do it justice. I had to get the image size down to under 200 KB to post. It started as a 4 MB image.

You should be able to get the edges of the Beavertail polished so they aren't sharp.

Cool, you got your pistol back, AND you get to put your CT grips on. Then you get to go try it out to make sure it still works and the sights and laser are adjusted THEN you get to take pictures of it so you can post porn ;D

Congrats red!!!! Please post a range report, How did the "little" mark behind the hammer turn out.

I hate they have to "mark" the thing to show its been back to the mothership for a recall but "sigh".

Maybe I'll watch a James Bond movie and make an offering to the martini gods, and it will speed up mine coming home.

Kid Shelleen, if the beavertail is sharp edged, tom's post of having it "smoothed" should not be too difficult. I figured if it was an issue it would have started biting after 5 or 15 rds.

I have fondled and shot an Interarms version, and IMHO, it seems the S&W Walther is much tighter, in all the machined parts, the tolerances, fit and finish, etc,.. That's why I believe in a "break-in" for lack of a better word, to loosen it up a bit.

It will still out live me, and generations from now, someone on the "Next Generation" DRTV forum will ask, what is this little mark behind the hammer for??? ;)

red, don;t forget to post CT porn, don't clean it before taking pics either,.......(please) some of like em' really dirty.....
