Auto-erotic asphxiation is not an uncommon cause of death.  I've known of two younger teenage boys that died this way.  One a relative the other a friends younger brother and have heard of several other cases envolving young males.

Lots of stories like this from LEO friends who had to go to class to recognize sex crimes and sexually related death...like this appears to be.  Evidently, some electrical voltage with a lantern battery is a charge for pervs to, the weirdest story I heard out of one of the classes was the guy in the tub with wires hooked up to a Lionel Train Transformer on one end and ....well,...on the other end...his wife came in aghast and turned up the voltage on the transformer and killed him.

My finace is a ortho surgen  she is currently on a er rotation.  She has told me some of th estuff they have had to pull out of *cough* holes ( from men and women)  the list of things is down right shocking.
