M'Lette
We never have been, are not now, and the good lord willing never will be, a judeo-christian nation. The Constitution makes clear that there is no establishment of religion. It also makes clear that we enjoy the free exercise of religion (a right that has sadly been trampled in recent years). Both of these things point out the fact that while MOST, though not all of the founders were Christian, they took pains to ensure separation of church and state. This wasn't just to "protect" the state from the church, it was also to protect the the chuch from itself. Because when the two mingle, two things happen; sure as night and day, and I defy you to find an historical counter example.
1 The state becomes theocratic and authoritarian, led by old men who claim that God is whispering in their left ear and any who oppose them, or even question them, are in league with the devil and should be done away with
2 The church becomes corrupted, caring more about money and temporal power than preaching the word of God.
This isn't theory, its history. Look at the Catholic Church in the middle ages, the puritans in colonial New England or the Muslim world today. Theoracy is theocracy, I don't care what god you claim to worship. At the end of the day the men (and its always men, just a hint M'Lette) worship one thing and that's power. Offering a Priest, Pastor, Rabbi or Imam political power is like offering a 15 year old boy whiskey and car keys. Nothing good will come of it.
