Bob Bogle of The Ventures passes away.
« on: June 16, 2009, 06:08:27 PM »
Even if you don't remember the Ventures, like us old guys,....you know the songs they made famous.

Wipe Out. The theme for Hawaii 5-O, Sleep Walk, Slaughter on 10th Ave.

Bob Bogle inspired many a guitarist, and had a unique sound.  The music has been in countless movies old and new.

RIP.

Here's a medley:

Great double drummers in this one.

Sad day.

I love the Ventures and most music that is heavy on guitar and missing vocals.

Sleep Walk, especially the Santo & Johnny version, is one of my all time favorites.

The Safari's did "Wipeout". I still have it on 45 vinyl. Also have the Ventures on album. I will have to stroll through the collection and see what I have. My father gave me his album collection and few years back and I added it to mine. Have a ton of great albums but no record player. Just like I do not have an 8 track player to listen to my 8 tracks. Have some Who, Doors, Alice Cooper and Kiss on 8 track. First piece of music I ever purchased was KISS Alive 2 on 8 track.

Sometimes I get "confused" with Dick Dale, Safari's, Ventures, and than the whole late 60's, and 70's genre that turned me to the darkside. 8)

There was a Quentin Tarantino film or two, that had some Venture's tunes in it....I'll have to think about which one.

Pulp Fiction from Tarantino had Dick Dale's Miserlou, Bulwinkle Part II by the Centurions and Surf Rider by The Lively Ones. All first rate examples of instrumental Surfin Rock.
