22 cal specific steel targets
« on: October 04, 2007, 02:15:49 PM »
I know steel targets are caliber specific. I can find centerfire steel targets, but I can't find any rimfire steel targets, other than the little spinner targets sold at Wallyworld.. Can anyone point me in the direction of a 22 caliber target manufacturer or info on how to build them properly to avoid richochets? I was hoping to find some info to build them here where I work.

I would like to find a 22 cal plate rack or some small hanging plates that ring when they are hit just like the steel challenge plates. These dont need resetting like pepper poppers or taping like paper targets and you know immediately when you hit them.
I assume they need to "give" when hit, need to be AR 500, and need to be angled down to deflect bullets down to the ground when hit.

Michael's show a few weeks back about the 22 rimfire and the range with all the 22 caliber targets was great. Can I link to more info on this site about that range?

Thks!

Do It All outdoor products makes a number of .22 specific targets.

You might also look into some polymer targets, from justshootme.  No worry about splatter, and you can get the targets themselves and make your own mounts.

GO TO www.mgmtargets.com Mike Gibson makes some of the finest targets around.

If your going to make them yourself and all your going to shoot at them is .22 rimfire,
T10 steel will work just fine. Ar500 will take all pistol calibers, and most rifle rounds if not
placed too close to the shooter. As for richochets, the bullet has to hit perpendicular to the target,
to fragment completely. Any angle can make it deflect rather than fragment. Also pay attention to
your mounting of the target,  the hangers and stems need to be considered as possible bullet redirecting
devices.
