THE MIGHTY HUNTER???
« on: June 20, 2009, 09:56:49 PM »
Allright. After giving Haz a ration of crap about his possum fiasco, I feel that in the interest of honesty, and good fellowship, I must tell a tale on myself. Today, my local butcher had a deal on cowboy cut ribeyes. 1" thick, $7 a pound. I bought one and grilled it and drank a bottle of nice claret. A few minutes ago, I noticed my pointer acting screwier than usual. She had cornered a large Buffo toad (another illegal alien here in Fl. and poisonious to dogs). By the time I got the dog inside, the toad was back in the thorn bush, so I got my trusty RWS .22 air rifle out. The trouble is, the house is 78 and outside is 82 with about 100% humidity. The scope fogged. After 4 shots (shooting blind, and blind drunk I might add, and did I mention it was dark?), I finally felled the beast. I did not utter the words "crikey, he's  big one" but I was sorely tempted. Like Haz, I maintain that every shot hit perfectly, and that it was just the sheer size of the beast (softball at least) that let him withstand the damage. Like Haz, no autopsy was performed. Thats my story and I'm sticking to it. 8)

Lucky he didn't charge!

I'd suggest the fetching "Cringing Toad" mount!

Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can praise them, disagree with them, quote them, disbelieve them, glorify or vilify them. The only thing you can’t do is ignore them

That's too bad, as my house abuts the 14th green of a nice (if such a term can be applied to the abomination that is golf) golf course. You'd be surprised hom much distance you can get flinging a toad over hand (catapault fashion) on a shovel. He hit about two feet from the hole, and there he shall rest. 8)

*Claret, however, is not included.
Anti: I think some of you gentleman would choose to apply a gun shaped remedy to any problem or potential problem that presented itself? Your reverance (sic) for firearms is maintained with an almost religious zeal. The mind boggles! it really does...

Me: Naw, we just apply a gun-shaped remedy to those extreme life threatening situations that call for it. All the less urgent problems we're willing to discuss.

with a Petite Syrah...
Thomas Jefferson: The strongest reason for the people to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against the tyranny of government. That is why our masters in Washington are so anxious to disarm us. They are not afraid of criminals. They are afraid of a populace which cannot be subdued by tyrants."
Col. Jeff Cooper.
