Lever Action Carbines

Starting to do some research on a lever action rifle in .357 magnum.

I know most of the normal players, Marlin, Puma, Winchester, Henry, Savage (used)....who am I missing and can anyone recommend one over the other.  I'm talking affordable, nothing in the stratosphere in price.

I've seen a newer Winchester in .30-30 and it's quality was terrible IMO....Now, if I could find a pre-'64 Model 1894 in any caliber for decent money, that's another matter alltogether.

Spent today running my .44 Mag Legacy Puma in the SASS Wild Bunch match...it's a great gun. For cowboy competition it's slower than a short-stroked 1873, but it is still a popular (and much less expensive) choice. The guys from Legacy Sports were really taken with my "antiqued" finish from Steve Young ("Nate Kiowa Jones") at Steve'z Guns (http://www.stevesgunz.com/), the best '92 mechanic in the world. My Puma is from Brazil; the new Legacy's will be coming from Chiappa in Italy...I have a .44 Magnum on order from them.

Here's the 454. 18" ported barrel

I had the safety removed and moved the rear sight back and changed it to a peep.

Heres an advertise shot of the 44 mag. 20" stainless

We put a recoil pad on ours.

All tipoes and misspelings are copi-righted.  Pleeze do not reuse without ritten persimmons  :D

Saltydog beat you to it. A pre-64 Model '94 .44 mag, in the box with papers for $175. The only reason I sold it was that my "dehumidified" storage unit wasn't and I didn't need it badly enough to justify the $200 reblueing cost. It was a good little hog gun though and I would reccomend looking at one.

Ksail has one also. Puma I believe. Send him a PM, if he isn't "lurking", has had nothing but good things to say about it.

Thomas Jefferson: The strongest reason for the people to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against the tyranny of government. That is why our masters in Washington are so anxious to disarm us. They are not afraid of criminals. They are afraid of a populace which cannot be subdued by tyrants."
Col. Jeff Cooper.
