Good man jnevis, but I was a Air Force Security Policeman and Armorer. Carried the M9, Smith and Wesson .38 Revolver, M-16, GAU5A, M-79, XM-148, M203, M870 and M-60.  Now I am a Glock Fiend. But I do desire a 1911.  :) Just don't want to take out a second mortgage on one.

You realize, of course, that the reason so many LEO's carry Glocks has less to do with the weapon and more to do with the low bid, do you not?

Same reason most recent contracts have been going to S&W.

Back when Glock took over US LEO market, they were coming in at half the price of the other guys.  Last time I looked, there was only $50-100 difference between a Glock 21 and a Para GI Expert.  And that Para is out-of-the-box reliable--name a RELIABLE 1911 back when Glocks were introduced (and at what price).

Like Glock or not, they were a game-changer that helped make quality handguns more affordable for all of us.

I'm not in LE, but I know a few Dallas police officers that carry a SIG 226. One of them told me that the Dallas Police only lets them carry SIGs or GLOCKS, and only may carry Glocks if they were hired before 2001. I know one Dallas Sheriff who carries an H&K USP .45, and another Dallas Sheriff who carries a Kimber SIS. I told my dad about the one who caries the H&K, and he said "I wonder if he knows how to use it?" I said "Dad, the department wouldn't spend the money to issue him an H&K (not outside of Germany anyway), and someone who spends that kind of money on one of those most likely knows how to use it."

Good point, In fact I THINK German Cops carry Glocks too. Have to check with Pepper or Ultima Radio on that

Might depend what state in Germany they're in. I knew a Hamburg officer (K9 instructor) who says they're issued the H&K P3000. Of course that was  a few years ago so maybe they've changed it by now. He said they used to carry the SIG P6 (known as the 225 here in the US.) Said when he was a UC in narcotics he carried a Walther PPK.

I think that the switch to Glocks is were  those low priced reconned P6's came from that are around now.
When they retired their P 1's in the 80's I bought one for $225.

every time i was over the water i carried my Sig 229 "DAK". not the most reliable weapon but if you take good care of it it will go bang every time you pulled the trigger. The action is nice and smooth and i have had a match grade barrel installed so it can shoot a fly off a cup at 50 yards.
