This would be great satire, except that California’s Speaker of the Assembly, Karen Bass, was foolish enough to say it — and believe it.  In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Bass responded to a question about conservative talk radio by calling show hosts terrorists, and openly wondering why we allow people to call politicians and give their opinions (via The Corner):




    "How do you think conservative talk radio has affected the Legislature’s work?

    The Republicans were essentially threatened and terrorized against voting for revenue. Now [some] are facing recalls. They operate under a terrorist threat: “You vote for revenue and your career is over. I don’t know why we allow that kind of terrorism to exist. I guess it’s about free speech, but it’s extremely unfair."




Beware the politicians who consider dissent terrorism.  They’re either idiotic beyond belief, or tyrants waiting for an opportunity.  Bass might just be both.

Our First Amendment Rights have been slowly eroding.  We can't talk about certain races, sexual orientation or Christianity (sometimes even Jewish beliefs).  We are not allowed to express ourselves unless it is politically correct.  And now, we see the warning shot over our bow of contacting our elected representatives being outlawed.

This is the reason for the Second Amendment!  People like Karen Bass will tell you it is a reason to strip us of our Second Amendment Rights, but it is exactly what our founding fathers called for when drafting the Ammendment.

Here in Minnesota the democratic controlled legislature passed budget bills that left nearly a $3 billion budget shortfall.  The legislature proposed closing the gap with tax increases.

Gov. Tim Pawlenty (R) vetoed all of the tax increases.  So, in order to balance the budget he is using the line item veto.  Just prior to the end of the legislative session this year he told the legislators the following: 

NOTE: In Minnesota the Democratic Party is named the Democratic Farmer Labor (DFL) Party.

“A key principle is that the DFL-controlled legislature shouldn’t spend more money than the state has available.  Unfortunately, they have done just that and now I’ll fix it.”

“Passing a balanced budget is the legislature’s most fundamental job. Unfortunately, so far this year the DFL majority has failed to get the job done.  In January, I outlined a balanced budget that prioritized important areas like public safety, military and veterans, and K-12 education. Now we’re in the final days of this legislative session and it’s time to let the people of Minnesota know that this will be resolved. It should get done on time and I’m saying it will get done on time."

“If the DFL cannot balance this budget without reaching into Minnesotans’ pockets and increasing our already uncompetitive taxes in ways that will kill job growth, I’m prepared to make the tough decisions they’ve avoided and take action to balance the budget.”

“I’m willing to work with the DFL on a reasonable plan, but I’m not willing to let them squeeze more money out of taxpayers and further burden job creators and employers in the midst of the toughest economy in more than 60 years.  One way or another, we will get the budget situation resolved, keeping taxpayers and families first in our minds.”

Another thing that happens up here, and I'm sure in other parts of the country, is that those opposed to something will spend millions on ad campaigns and law suits.  If the special interests, unions and DFL would send their advertising and legal money to the state coffers the issue would not be nearly as large.

The idea of disent being equated to terrorism seems to have become part of the liberal play book.  I found this on Newsbusters.

If, like virtually all House Republicans and a handful of Dems, you don't agree with the likes of Henry Waxman on the need to take radical measures on the climate, you're guilty of . . . "a form of treason."  Treason against the planet, to be precise.

That was Krugman's formulation in his New York Times column of today, Betraying The Planet.

This is really dangerous language.  If this mantra sticks it will be leveraged by liberals and used to put down dissent.  After all, a terrorist must be eradicated.
