For my usual 9mms, I carry 124-gr Hornady TAPS. (http://www.hornady.com/story.php?s=149). I'mequally comfotable with the Cor-Bon line of defensive ammo (I usually have that lying around in .45 ACP). In my revolvers, I carry Winchester SilverTip. I think the 200-gr SilverTip .44 Specials is one of the best revolver defensive rounds ever made...

Winchester SilverTips...I'm of the school that .380 and .32 are pretty much interchangeable. I have a .380 Colt Mustang I really like, and a NA Arms .32 I haven't carried in a while. I once carried a Mauser HsC .32, the finest little semiauto ever made, as my carry piece. I still have the gun, and it is still wonderful but underpowered...

+1 on the SiverTips.  I have done 'phone book' tests with them against magteks, blasers, hornady and remys.  The Silvertips expand AND penetrate much better.
All tipoes and misspelings are copi-righted.  Pleeze do not reuse without ritten persimmons  :D

I recintly bought a M&P in .40 S&W I've been tring the Win Lawman 180gr with.  It's shooting ok , the poa-poi is a little differant then the pratice ammo I load up. (165 rainer, 8gr of pwr pistol)   Shoots high at 25 feet, on at 25 yds ,a little low at 100 '

Having worked my share of autopsies involving gunshot wounds, I agree with Michael on standard velocity handgun rounds, Silvertips are a great round. I prefer the Federal Hydrashok for high speed cartridges such as the .357 mag, etc. In my .45 acp, I still stock it from my stash of Winchester Black Talons (now known as the Winchester Ranger in their Law Enforcement line sans the black finish).
Forums like this are a great place to start your search for a round and caliber to carry. As I mentioned in an article for downrange.tv concerning ammo selection, a major part of your selection is reliable antidotal information.

Gotta buck the trend a bit and recommend Speer Gold-Dots.  Saw the report from a police demonstration during an ammo testing session (that resulted in a policy change of ammo brand for the Memphis Police Department) with Hydra-Shocks shooting at windshields...  A large (enough) % of the Hydra-Shock's jackets seperated from the lead upon impact with the windshields.  The cores penetrated, but didn't even hit the dummy in the driver's seat.  Range was 10-15 feet; caliber 40 S&W.  Gold-dots never had a jacket seperation.

Doesn't mean that the Silvertips are bad - far from it.  I've just seen the data to know that the Gold-Dots are pretty bad-a$$ rounds.  I'll ask him today if he can email me the report, and if he minds me sharing it.  (Might have to get permission on that one.)

Dude357, Black Talons is what I carry in my GLOCK 30. In my Rock Island 1911 and Ruger P90, as well as one of my extra mags for the GLOCK, I have Remington/UMC 230 gr JHP. Just the cheap $13 per 50 rounds stuff. It seems like these 3 pistols shoot about any 230 grain ammo to the same point of aim for me. In the P32 I've been carrying lately, I've got one mag loaded with Silvertips (Which just happens to be my favorite .357 Defense load as well. 145 grain.), and one loaded with Federal Hydra-Shoks. The past couple days I've carried the Federals in the gun and used the Silvertips as a reload. Usually it's the other way around. Silvertips in the gun and Federals as my reload. In the NAA .22 Mag I've been carrying, it's Winchester Power Point Hollowpoints (Can't remember what grain they are and can't find the box right now. Want to say 55 gr, but that might be wrong.). That was the only .22 Mag HP's available where my dad bought the gun at that time, and he didn't want a carry gun without having Hollow points for it.
