Working in the past as a Radio Shack employee and manager I had to ask every customer and maintain a 90% or better average of getting names and address.
That was ok, but when they took on Sprint and started offering home phone and especially the LD service I HATED it so much!!!
But RS could tout that they did have a massive direct mailing due to asking people for there info, and most of the time they gave it.
Well I got sick of it, most customer got sick of it. And now like the cartoon demonstrates many business are doing it to extremes. Credit cards, discount cards, and the like are getting annoying. Do you know what these business do with the data they collect.

On the lighter note, I do love the "tech support" episodes.
