Crappy stock or no, In todays times 91/30's, M38, M44's, all just good clean fun to shoot!  For as long as the 91/30's are, they balance beutifully in the hand, and actually handle fairly well because it.  Besides, If you somehow DID break it.   "You always have lots of fine burning firewood there!"

Better than an AK though?   Gun Gods willing I'll never have to choose!

Yea BUT you can find 30.06 in every store in America that carries any kinda ammo to speak of! While the 7.62x54r is admittedly equal to the .06 it's not as readily available at least here in the states.

True (and I love my 30-06) but I can buy 800 rounds of 7.62x54r for 148.00!

though I too prefer to buy American, I will not let it restrict my gun buying vice. I do own a MN 91/30 and love it. and have found ammo most everywhere, it is fairly popular. besides being a good (quality) gun, it is also a piece of history that is nice to have. doesn't mean I don't want American rifles, but I can't deny that it's a very good shooter.
