Dropped pistol fires, wounding woman in next restroom stall at Tampa hotel

TAMPA — A simple trip to the restroom ended in an accidental shooting at the Clarion Hotel Thursday morning, according to Tampa Police.

At 8:30 a.m., Janifer Bliss, 54, was in a restroom stall at the hotel on Fowler Avenue when a gun fell out of woman's waist holster in the next stall.

The small caliber gun fired when it hit the floor and the shot went through Bliss's lower left thigh. She was taken to Tampa General Hospital with minor injuries, according to a release from Tampa Police.

The woman carrying the gun, identified as Debra Monce, 56, of 17456 Stinchar Drive in Land O'Lakes, has a concealed weapons permit, the police said.

But the case is still being forwarded to the State Attorney's office to determine if any charges will be filed.

"The holster was an open holster with no snaps or clips to hold the gun in place," said Andrea Davis, a police spokeswoman.

notice they give full name and address, would they do that to the victim? oh wait, they didn't. why the hell do they publish that info? like a registry of sex offenders? registered ccw holders...

Dropped (modern) guns do NOT fire.  This lady grabbed for it as it fell and pulled the trigger.  Accident, yes.  Crime, no.  Civil suit, you bet!

LET IT GO!!!  Then pick it up off the ground.  You don't grab for a dropped knife in the air, no, you jump back to save your toes and hope you don't f$%# it up.  Same with a pistol.
