Stupid Time
« on: October 14, 2007, 06:01:14 PM »
Geez, but I hate it when this happens.

I got a WASR-10 in trade, 2002 model, wanted to try the AK family, have heard good things about them, price was right, etc. etc. etc. I was going to take it shooting this morning, but on a whim, thought I'd better break it down and clean it first. Good thing I did - filthy inside, turned everything it touched black.

I had heard about the stamped cover, practiced getting the cover off and on, took two tries, finally got it, got the rifle cleaned, then went to put it all back together. Here's the stupid part.

How do you get the bolt to go back into battery properly? The rotating head of the firing head is up, the slide post is on the shooter's left, everything looks right, but the rotating part is blocking the bolt. I've searched the internet, no avail. Stores are closed, haven't got the tear down-book (yet?), so I'm lost and want to shoot my new toy.

Any help?  ::)

Thanks.

Thanks guys, I didn't have this much d@#& problem with the freakin' CETME.

I did find an article on AR15.com, took it with me to the range tonight (I am such an optimist!   ;D ) and read the article, fiddled, read some more, fiddled, had dinner, fiddled and wham-o it slipped into place. I have no idea what I did, but I promptly drove it out to the rifle range (at the end of the range complex), only to discover you need a staple gun to put up targets, So I re-used a day-glo target, and put 60 rounds downrange as fast as I could. 50 yards, hit the target bunches, good sights, will shoot more in the daylight - it's dark at 7:30 in ND these days. Thank goodness for day-glo targets.

I learned three things tonight:

1. WASR-10s do not sit on a MTM rifle rest with a 30 round mag
2. Shooting at night produces some very cool freakin' muzzle flames
3. I now know what "trigger slap" is!

And Redstone, I will go watch the youtube video just in case.
