BHO was the "first" candidate to be extended Secret Service Protection that actually had to be signed by Pres. Bush. (ironic but true.) Late Winter/Spring 08.

They knew what "could happen" even at a candidate function. There will be an implied Federal usurpation of state law for a Pres. candidate, and states won't touch it.

A good mate of mine ( and a comedian)  was over there during the democratic convention  and covered this exact thing  in this show he did for a new paper here in Australia

Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can praise them, disagree with them, quote them, disbelieve them, glorify or vilify them. The only thing you can’t do is ignore them

I thought that if a dignitary/politician was in a building/place it was deemed a default gun free zone. Am I mistaken on this?
Everything I needed to learn in life I learned from Country Music.

"The gun was licensed"?

We don't "license" firearms here.

I was scratching my head at that one, too.

Not that I know of, I was already in a restaurant wearing a pistol, (that SS was AWARE of ) when BJ walked in and no one said anything to me.

I remember when this happened and the guy was detained.
If I remember correctly he was stopped several hours before the rally started.  He was outside of the rally area.  The Secret Service was called in by the locals and after a brief assesment of the situation declined to take any action as John Noble was not a threat.

I read some of this guys post right after it happened.  I don't remember his user name or the forum for sure, but I think he posted about this on a PA gun forum and on the Ruger forum.  It might have also been greybeard outdoors or the AR forum.

This sounds like a good cause for jury nulification.

Basically in my oinion the local cops and prosecutors look like fools over this and have their panties twisted, so they're going to show John Noblel who's in charge.

Found some of it.

User name MtnJack, or Mtn Jack, or Mountain Jack.  The PAFOA, PA Firearms Owner Association forum.  The link will take you to the thread.  142 pages long.  If I find more, I'll post additional links.  Did we dicuss this here at one time?
