.22 Revolver ??
« on: February 28, 2007, 02:29:39 PM »
Hi Guys,

My girlfriend is now a shooter (yeaaaaa!) but of course with all good things come a few problems.

Right now she is shooting my Single Six and has tried my sons' MKIII.  She likes the way the MKIII fit her hand but likes the revolvers better.  I understand what she means as we both have large hands and frankly the Single six is just a small gun.  She doesn't like the look of the DA revolvers so where do I go from here as we are really talking about a cowboy looking gun that has adjustable sights.

I have looked for 'oversize' grips for the Single Six but have not found any.  I would like wood (or laminate) that are beefier and maybe longer too.  Have any ideas?

That's a toughie, as the Single Six is sort of baseline standard for .22 SA revolvers. There are lots of grip options, however, ranging from cheap to "oh my goodness!" The easiest and least expensive option are the Hogue rubber grips, which tend to be pretty oversized and good for large hands. You can see them here:

There's lot's of options...easier to find new grips than a new gun!

A few weeks ago I made a few comments about a perfect .22 cal plinker on this forum. Look at the past comments and you will see the discussion. Sorry I don't know how to post all of that here. Anyway I now think the best .22 revolver is the S&W 4 inch model 617.

Have fun. Shooting with the wife is great as long as she does not decide to shoot you!

WOW!  Thanks MB.

I thought I had looked at all of the grips including Hogue but some how I had missed their wooden ones.  I think they will do the job nicely.  Now I have to get a GIRL to make a choice as to what wood (Oh, woe is me :) ).

My wife liked my new 4" 617 with 10-shot cylinder until she tried an old Model 63 which is a J-frame and thought it fit better.
If grips are the issue, ask her to check out a S&W 317...
I still think the 617 is the coolest thing I have gotten in a long time and really enjoy shooting it.
