Anybody see the new show "The Colony"
« on: July 24, 2009, 03:28:51 PM »
Anybody get a chance to see this? I happened upon the trailers for this last night. While it looks interesting, I wonder how "realistic" the scenario is?

I have it on the PVR, but haven't watched it yet.  I'll do a summary when I watch it.

First off this show is an controlled experiment.  Which, IMO throws the "realistic" element out the window.  But it dose make for some good entertainment.  In this "reality" it will be interesting to see how this plays out.

This series is about a group of 10 survivor after a major pandemic, SHTF, post apocalyptic world, etc...  From the first episode I can say there are no firearms seen (the group is in L.A. and we all know CA policy).  One thing that has me scratching my head is that 7/10 of the survivor have bachelor degree or higher.  I think this is not a representative sample of the LA population.  Thus, leads us back to my first statement.

Note: state away from the Discovery forums.  There are a lot of self-proclaimed firearms 'experts' spewing wisdom.  So much wisdom it is enough to warrant self termination.

I watched all the trailers on each episode.. Looks interesting.
How actual realistic it is.. ( it being controlled) I don't know.
No firearms at all? And how far in a controlled situation will the "intruders" go..
In real life.. the intruders most likely would do lots more than I"m sure these will to get stuff..

But we'll see....

It is good for one purpose.  To educate people on being prepared.  You can see how hard it is when in a controlled environment...so imagine how much harder it will be when the variables are not so well known.  If people watch this with any type of brain function, even the most liberal tree hugger could see the importance of knowing how to use( at minimum) if not at least owning a few guns.
Who knows...maybe someon ewill learn something.

The show is stupid. They didn't blow up the world and the people in it know they won't be killed, maimed, raped, or any other damn thing. Stupidest thing I've every seen next to John and Kate + 8 and "I didn't know I was pregnant"

Wouldn't it be kinda hard to blow up the world just for a TV show?

PBS ran a show a few years ago where they had a family move to the middle of nowhere and live as settlers in the 1800s would have- same clothes, gear, tech, housing, etc.  These people knew that indians or outlaws wouldn't be attacking, but did that make it stupid?

Am I falling for a troll again?

That one your talking about was pretty cool, If I remember correctly they had 2 shows, more or less at each end of the 1800's.
Indians and outlaws weren't needed, life was hard enough back the. Remember, we have people now who have never lived with out cell phones and pc's cut off the electricity and oil and they would die (IIRC they DID have kerosene lamps)
Tell the average person nowadays they have to get out of bed a light the wood stove  when it's so cold the pisspot has frozen solid and they would have you arrested for cruelty, for that matter just using a pisspot and out house is more than many of these pampered wimps can handle. Never mind cut and split wood or you don't eat (IIRC They had to harvest fire wood and raise a garden)
