Is it just me or does this sound like an insincere, politically expedient attempt to close the issue?  Too bad he (or his handlers) didn't have the decency to do this on his own but had to wait until the police UNIONS chided him.  I think I need a drink.

You called the officer and department out as a part of a major national press conference.  Go to Cambridge and join the officer, his family and representatives of the department on their turf and apologize for questioning their professionalism and undermining their respect and authority in the community and nation as a whole.  Mr. BHO, you have no problem telling other nations that we are bad people, now it is time to go and admit you blew it and were wrong.

And ... Do this as a part of a prime time news conference!

I'm not saying you need to beg forgiveness, but you do need to admit you were blew it and work with the department to fix the damage you have done.
