Had a friend of mine a few years back in Colorado had one that tried to get in the window over the kitchen sink.  He was squared away on it with his Ruger .357 Blackhawk that he had handy when it backed out.  When he called fish and game they told him they had numerous calls on a problem bear in the area and if it came back to please shoot it.

We were in Ormond Beach, Florida two weeks ago and a black bear was captured not too far from where we were staying.
People used to say there were no bears in southern Georgia too, until the DNR caught one in a Cracker Barrel trash dumpster right here in my town....and two weeks later one was hit by a car about ten miles out of town.

I guess you never know what's gonna come up outta the woods these days.
"I expect perdition, I always have. I keep this building at my back, and several guns handy, in case perdition arrives in a form that's susceptible to bullets. I expect it will come in the disease form, though. I'm susceptible to diseases, and you can't shoot a damned disease." ~ Judge Roy Bean, Streets of Laredo

For the Patriots of this country, the Constitution is second only to the Bible for most. For those who love this country, but do not share my personal beliefs, it is their Bible. To them nothing comes before the Constitution of these United States of America. For this we are all labeled potential terrorists. ~ Dean Garrison

.40 short and weak?

There was the guy in Alaska who killed a grizzly in his home with his Glock 22. I still would have rather had my shotgun with slugs.

I had a buddy who was an Alaskan bush pilot (Crazy) and outfitter. His brother surprized a grizzly outside of their cabin. He shot the grizzly in the head with a .357 Magnum. The .357 round BOUNCED off the bears head. Scott came out and dispatched the grizzly with a rifle.

I always thought that maybe ol' Scott was stretchin' this story, but if a pistol round can bounce off of the head of a 2 y/o 120 pound bear.....................Just saying. I'd want a large bore rifle real handy in grizzly country.
