"National Level Exercise 2009 (NLE 09)

National Level Exercise 2009 (NLE 09) is scheduled for July 27 through July 31, 2009. NLE 09 will be the first major exercise conducted by the United States government that will focus exclusively on terrorism prevention and protection, as opposed to incident response and recovery.

NLE 09 is designated as a Tier I National Level Exercise. Tier I exercises (formerly known as the Top Officials exercise series or TOPOFF) are conducted annually in accordance with the National Exercise Program (NEP), which serves as the nation's overarching exercise program for planning, organizing, conducting and evaluating national level exercises. The NEP was established to provide the U.S. government, at all levels, exercise opportunities to prepare for catastrophic crises ranging from terrorism to natural disasters.

NLE 09 is a White House directed, Congressionally- mandated exercise that includes the participation of all appropriate federal department and agency senior officials, their deputies, staff and key operational elements.  In addition, broad regional participation of state, tribal, local, and private sector is anticipated.  This year the United States welcomes the participation of Australia, Canada, Mexico and the United Kingdom in NLE 09.  I have not seen any other info about this, but until I do I will bet it is nothing but a high level map exercise as none of the listed countries have a sound enough economy to afford actually  moving people and equipment.

When it comes to a terrorist prevention excersise, having Mexican and UK participation is a good thing. Look the UK, with an even dumbe immigration policy than ours, is a major conduit for Paki militants moing nto the west. Mexico is obviously the preffered entry point for anyrhing and anyone coming into the US. If they want to e proactive, good.

PS As far as fearing Mexican soldiers in the US, I wouldn't rent Red Dawn, I'd try Stripes instead. Seriously, Mexico, remember that SWAT video? ;D

I'd keep a sharp eye on the Mexican troops.  They might try recruiting a bunch of American citizens to buy guns at area gun shows and smuggle the guns across the boarder.   :)

Actually FQ, all the terrorists who have been traced that entered the US illegally have come through CANADA. The ones who try to come through Mexico get ratted out by "wetbacks" (no offense intended just differentiating between types of illegal aliens ) who do not want the Islamists messing up their good deal.
The UK IS a valuable ally as they have THE BEST and MOST EXPERIENCED counter terrorism force in the world bar NONE.
The problem arises when you try to guess who this stuff will be used against . Obama does not have a very good record, declining to voice support for the PEOPLE of Iran, and actively working AGAINST the legal procedures of Honduras in support of a Dictator wannabe.

Good idea WatchmanUSA.  I'll do the same on my end.  Then again...maybe if would be fun if someone would erroneously rat some of them out to the ATF when they are here, anonymously of course, and see it the Feds show up.   That would be fun to watch.

Sounds like a Charlie Foxtrot to me....

Although I'm sure it will be more efficient than utilizing French Troops.

Plus,..... the military has agreed to assist in civilian H1N1 support, should it become a serious threat this upcoming flu season...

This scares me more,... how are no sir, you can't leave your town, and mandatory quarantines sound???

Door to door compliance with curfews for H1N1???

Uh,..sorry.........I'll just get my tin foil and bring my Mad Max movies after Red Dawn...to the corner.....
