Obama wants us to have this: World Prostate Cancer 5-yr Survival Rates

It’s the end of week and I’m winding down.  I work from home and have Glenn Beck on while I’m finishing up.  I hear a discussion about ObamaCare and Beck puts up a graphic about the 5-year survival rates from prostate cancer.

I don’t take too many things on face value so I quickly do a web search and found this comparison from Cancer Research UK.  They describe them selves as: “Cancer Research UK’s News & Resources website was launched in January 2005, and provides in-depth, up-to-date information for anyone with a professional or general interest in cancer and health.  The News & Resources website is run by members of the Charity’s Policy & Communication Directorate.”

The US currently has a 5-year prostate cancer survival rate just a couple of percentage points under 100%.  The best rate the rest of the countries can muster is about 85% and that is generous.

I'm sure we'll drop lower than the others once Obamacare is the law of the land.

No doubt.  Survival rates are less because of the wait to be treated.  Perhaps some, because of ageorother issues are not treated.

Of course the US survival rate will go up under ObamaCare.   Since you won't be able to schedule time for diagnostics, then you'll never be diagnosed with prostrate cancer.  When you die, they won't waste time for autopsies for"natural deaths" so you'll never become a statistic.   Not only will the survival rate sky rocket, but the incident rate of prostrate cancer will be almost zero.    See no disease, hear no disease, then there is no disease.

WatchManUSA is right, the key to treating any disease is early detection AND TREATMENT.  It is purely the waiting in line for 6-12 MONTHS to get treatment started that would cause a trend like this.

I bet the breast cancer numbers would show a similar trend. 

Remember the "glory" days of HMO's??  now think of that x 1000.

Prostate cancer and breast cancer are not things people just get, one has to work at getting them, I choose to have neither.

Not to be critical but it appears you may have missed the point.  Prostate cancer, when treated early, is very treatable (some might even use the term curable).

However, the countries that Obama holds up as examples of successful government provided health care have a significantly lower rate of success against a very treatable cancer like prostate cancer.  Diseases, like cancer, need to be diagnosed early and treated quickly.  After 5-years post-prostate treatment Germany has about an 85% success rate and the UK has 77% compared to our current success rate of virtually 100%. 

The major difference is here one will have treatment within days or even hours of being diagnosed with prostate cancer.

Like many Americans I believe that ObamaCare has little to do with improving our health care or saving money.  It has everything to do with POWER and control over our lives.
