Bushnell Holosight
« on: October 28, 2007, 11:30:24 PM »
Have any of you guys used one of these? If so, how do you like it? How does it compare to a Eotech? I am thinking of buying one for my AR, and would like opinions, good and bad. Thanks.

I have one.  I do not believe that it is as rugged as the EOTech as it doesn't have the outer housing cover.  I would also like the better buttons as the one I have has the membrane ones instead of the real ones.  The model I have uses the N batteries, which is ok.  I bought a bunch bulk and stored them in the freezer.

So far it has held up to all that we have dished out to it.  I really like the circle with the 1 MOA dot rather than just a dot.  Personal thing.

I just bought one and have just started to use it on my black rifle. I am impressed at how my groups on the AR tightend right up at 100 yards. I see the 1 mil dot as a 3 dot triangle that covers more than a mil. That could be just me.

Mine is an N battery job as well. Which is fine by me as I have other things that use N batteries. The bad news on N batteries is that the Commissary and PX don't always have them available. The good news is that they do sell them. So, stock up when they have them. I don't Know where to buy N batteries in bulk. More good news is that the N batteries take up less space and weigh less. What you give up to the AAA battery jobs is the length of time the batteries are good for and the cost of the batteries. But for me the space on the rail, the lighter weight, and lower cost of the N sights win out. You can buy a lot of N batteries for the difference in price.

One last point. I went to the EOtech web site. That is were I found out about the Busnell Holosight. So, I speculate they are the same basic systems.

Here... http://www.batterywarehousedirect.com/2.html?m5:cat=%2FN%2FENERGIZER  I bought a pack of 48 and that works out to about 60 cents each.

My local arms merchant said that the EOTech and Bushnell had the same guts in them....but that the EOTech (which I purchased) had the steel shroud to "armor" the sight.  I'm pretty rough on equipment, so I went with the EOTech.  Side by side, I think my arms merchant is right.
