Underbarrel shotgun
« on: August 20, 2009, 02:20:52 PM »
hay guys.

ok so i just saw a picture on the net about a under barrel shotgun

and was wondering if it would be worth it taking my old 870 and having it mounted underneath my AR.

in my opinion this would make a deadly combination for home defense: the sheer firepower of the 12g and the capacity of the AR would make it a great.

Will also be fun to see the guys drooling at the range  ;D

thoughts?

They have been around since the early 80's at least, like AR 12 ga. they never really seemed to catch on. A neat gizmo that is in fact an answer looking for a question.

I'm with Tom on this one. One question, Why? Why add weight to an Ar? Why ruin a perfectly good shot gun? Why would you need both? Why carry two types of ammo? Why would the shot gun do anything (except snake control) any better thant the AR? Why do you think the guys at the range would be drooling rather than giggling (actually given your background they would wait till you left before laughing ;D). Seriously, there are a hundred things I would buy, including a cat and an autographed picture of Cheney before that rig.

One of the characters used this set up in the movies "Predator".  It would have to be very heavy and unbalanced.

I think I saw this on another thread (maybe here) that had a link to Remington police or military products that had these along with the part numbers.  The operative word here is think.  I'm getting older and suffer from bouts of CRS.

The shotgun will still have to be 28" with a 18" barrel. That would make it akward. If you still want to mount something under the barrel, try a 37MM flaregun. Mine looks just like an M203.

the only practical reason to do that is so you can use the shot gun with a breaching load for "storming" a building.  otherwise all your doing is adding wieght.

If you could get an M203 and plenty of golden eggs for it, that would be worth it.

Funny, I have never been able to find one at a gunshow ???

"No Maam.  If I was expecting trouble, I'd have a rifle."

FQ, The only REAL use is as TAB said, Breaching. They were mostly sold for people who lived in states that don't allow the flair guns or real M203's
I was going to say mall ninja's as that is what most of them are but if Frank has the flare gun I would assume he has an actual use for it, Bird bombs or some such.

Tom, who needs an actual use for one?  Just because is good enough.  Can't fall into that "need" trap.
