I was thinking about that too. I saw that Mossberg sells a .308 with sights. In an EOTWAWKI situation, if my glass gets damaged for whatever reason, I still want to be able to remove it and get game meat.
I've always thought this was stupid as well. Most new hunting rifles don't have irons. Yeah, we're going to put a scope on it, but what happens on day two of that once in a life time fly in hunt, when you drop the thing and break the scope? They always used to come with irons. Its weird that it was AR's that pioneered the flip up BUIS. Looking back, you'd think it would have been someone's "Alaskan" or "African" model, where they would have made their first appearence.
