they look like a legitimate, pro gun, organization, but I'll need more info before I'm ready to sign up. Anyone on the forum familiar with these guys?

And at least one story each of us had better read!

http://gunowners.org/a062609.htm

"The back-stabbing Senators are:  Lamar Alexander (R-TN), Susan Collins (R-ME), Judd Gregg (R-NH), Orrin Hatch (R-UT), Richard Lugar (R-IN), Mel Martinez (R-FL), Olympia Snowe (R-ME) and George Voinovich (R-OH)."

With the exception of Martinez who is quitting, and Voinivich, who I haven't heard of before, the others have been Washington fixtures for decades, Judd Gregg is the best one from NH, the other being a BO DEM, Collins and Snowe have been notorious RINO's all along, Hatch however surprises me, He and Gregg are usually pretty good on this sort of thing.

Gun Owners of America has been around for years, they are the #3 gun organization after the NRA and SAF, you seldom hear of them because they work through the state organizations like GONH (Gun Owners of New Hampshire)
The National Organization has been criticized by both sides of the gun rights issue over the years, My experience is that they don't work with other groups, they excited about things with out checking facts and their information is often days or even weeks behind NRA, dated information is a fault I have also found with the SAF  and JFPO web sites as well.
I am better informed by this web site and NRA.

Thanks for the info Tom.

I have been thinking about GOA for over a year, but I have had a hard time finding out anything about them outside of their own writings.  One concern I have is if they are doing anything.  All the anger over the NRA means they are doing something ... not always what we like, but they are out there doing something.
If I appear taller than other men it is because I am standing on the shoulders of others.

GOA mostly bashes NRA  with out actually doing anything themselves, and hyperventilates over the most asinine things, like when there was talk about keeping guns away from PTSD patients GOA was in the forefront of screaming they were going to take all the guns away from all veterans. Give your money to NRA, SAF or your State organization . GOA is a waste.
