Any Guns scare you?
« on: September 04, 2009, 01:56:11 PM »
I've shot 44mags, 454 Casull, and a couple of Smith's new big bores and I would shoot them again.

One gun that I'm hesitant to shoot again is the S&W Scandium Snub Nose.  I believe it was the 340?  My friend who is a Chicago Police Officer uses one as an ankle gun but usually loads .38 +P rounds.  At our last range outing, he decided to load it up with some .357 rounds and hand it over to me.

I once read a review where the shooter described the flame out of the front being similar to an orangutan jumping out of the barrel.  I have to admit that that was a pretty accurate description.   We were shooting indoors and this gun roars!  The recoil made my had physically sore after 3 cylinders and I quit.

I'm sure in a defensive scenario, adrenaline would kick in so you really wouldn't feel or hear much of it but if I were given the chance to step up to the line and shoot it again, I think I would pass.

I shot my 642 Powerport right after shooting his and mine felt like a .22 with standard .38 rounds.

If anyone is curious, the porting up front of the 642 Powerport has yet to spit up hot gasses (even when shot from close retention) or has caused any excess noise like some claimed it would because it was ported.  It's the only gun I have with a lock but it doesn't bother me and I love it.  Probably one of my favorite guns.

Only the ones shooting at me.

Got that one right but I'll add guns that are poorly maintained.

There's a video of the "T-Rex" .577 Nitro? Here somewhere, knocking people on their ass's. All were NOT shooters, had the wrong stance, and were total novices.

I'd shoot it anyway. 8)

Shot a .500 S&W Magnum, not out of control for someone with a good stance and has fired large caliber arms before. Not for the rookie to be sure.

My 1891 Mauser with original metal buttplate makes me physically sore after several stripper clips...
Same for 3" Sabot Slugs...in 12g

But this guy shooting anything scares me the most,....can't tell if its a 600 nitro or not, but he's a lucky guy...

saved for posterity...

S&W .500 does give me some pause. Its not a gun I think I could keep on target if I had to rapid fire it. Tried it once and only once.

The T-rex, and those double barrel British elephant guns. I have kids to abuse me, I don't need to do it to myself!   ;D

It's funny that I carry a M&P 340 and have never thought of it as being that brutal. My current carry round is Hornady Critical Defense FTX .38 +P's but I have shot .357 mags in it.

I consider a hand full my NAA 22LR with CCI stingers............. :)

I have a S&W 500 and enjoy shooting it. It's a pleasure to shoot with 300 gr. You had better be ready with the 500 gr. It takes awhile to clean afterward but it's still fun to shoot. ;)
