Clunkers
« on: September 04, 2009, 04:10:54 PM »
A vehicle at 15 mpg and 12,000 miles per year uses 800 gallons a year of gasoline.

A vehicle at 25 mpg and 12,000 miles per year uses 480 gallons a year.

So, the average clunker transaction will reduce US gasoline consumption by 320 gallons per year.

        They claim 700,000 vehicles – so that's 224 million gallons / year.

That equates to a bit over 5 million barrels of oil.

5 million barrels of oil is about ¼ of one day's US consumption.

And, 5 million barrels of oil costs about $350 million dollars at $75/bbl.

So, we all contributed to spending $3 billion to save $350 million..

How good a deal was that ???

They'll probably do a great job w. health care though!!

Johnny,

Don't forget the fuzzy stuff:

Our S 10 qualified if we traded for a new K 1500.  Our S 10 gets 18 - 22 depending on the type of driving, and in theory the K1500 is better ... Friends that have the full size are getting 14-16 in daily driving and just over 20 on the highway.

Only the gobment can find a oil usage and pollution fix in that trade  :-[

Don't forget, the Goobermint allowed the Hummer H3 to be included.  It was a pure waste of taxpayer dollars.

Hummer isn't a GM product, they sold it to China a couple months ago.

Which means the Chinese are making one of our most basic military vehicles!  >:(

I thought that deal went south and the Chinese back out?

Military hummers are still made in the US of A - they did not go to China. There's a "$5 make you holla" joke in there somewhere.  ;D

Deal is still on, just some things to work out IIRC.

Path,I know the Hummer is still made here but the chinks will be able to (more easily) put chips of their design into them.  I know this may sound crazy BUT what if that put a chip in that they can effectively shut down at any time they want.  Sorta puts a big hole in our mobility.

Other than looks I don't think there is any actual direct connection between the actual  HUMVEE and the Hummer brand
