My family is full of the confused registered democrat NRA members  They have their union card right next to their CCDW.

I too had a "Newbie" experience this past weekend. Maggie and I took my two cousins out to the club. The male was interested in getting a handgun. After we had shot almost everything in my safe, plus my SIL's off duty Glock 26 he had a pretty good idea what type and caliber he was looking for.

With his sister it was more a case of her being afraid of guns and not wanting to be afraid of them, so she watched for awhile. Maggie and my daughter finally got her going shooting at bowling pins. She started on revolvers with 38 and even took a few pins out with my 1911 in 45. In addition I gave her my own version of Rob Pincus' primer for folks who know nothing...."What to do if you find a handgun and may need to use it." from a segment of Best Defense...great info for non-gun types. Anyway, now she feels a lot better about it. Also that day my son who was always "take it or leave it" was talking about getting his FID card. Since he's graduating from a NJ university next May my SIL and I talked him into waiting, since he might move somewhere that he doesn't even need such a thing, and so why put himself on the radar in NJ...

It was a lot of fun coaching newbies and it also reinforces safety rules and just the plain joy of shooting your favorite toys.
I got the blues as my companion.

The hardest part is getting them to the range.  Once they've got a few rounds downrange, you see the change.  I've converted numerous anti-gunners in the past myself.

Feels good, doesn't it?

A follow up...

The BIL finally made some aquisitions after much study and fondling and today I got an e-mail:

Tim ,

I bought some new toys:

Walther PPK- small light semi 380
S&W 520....super light weight 357 revolver
S&W 317-2..light weight 22 revolver

In a couple weeks when I am on vacation we can shoot.

I can't complain with these guns.  Seems he took my advice and kept things simple!

That's great Tim, might want to put .38's in that 520 to start, than go to the 357 loads, wouldn't want what's left of his tin-foil hat to fall off. :o

I'm assuming he bought that to pack with.  Light but good for a nasty black bear.  He hikes in some pretty remote areas in VT, NH and ME.

I told him to stay with a heavier gun be he didn't listen....I don't know where he found it.  S&W doesn't make them anymore!  He might have bought them from Texgun, he was talking about driving up there for a look-see...I haven't talked to him since X-mas!
