Yesterday, Larry Douglas Smith, 41, pleaded guilty in Oconee County (South Carolina) court to three counts of sexual exploitation of a minor and one count of criminal sexual conduct with a minor. The former high school janitor got off lightly it seems, having been sentenced to four consecutive 10-year prison terms.
According to prosecutor Chrissy Adams, Smith had a child porn collection that included more than 600 videos and 126,000 illegal images — mostly of boys. She described the images as “disturbing” and “horribly graphic.”
Had Smith been charged for each individual image, he could have faced a sentence of 1.2 million years in prison — give or take a few thousand years. But public defender Danny Day called for leniency, noting that his client had readily admitted his actions and would cooperate with authorities in building cases against others.
