....Well, if the Huckster is the nominee I will either not vote for prez or I'll vote a 3rd party as a protest. I have lived all my life in the bible belt and I will not vote for a fundamentalist everything is litterally true in the bible and we ignore science baptist for prez. I am afraid the Huckster will not only push creationism/ID for public schools but he will also attempt to interfere with science funding and research into any area that contradicts his religious belief. Also, I agree that abortion should be "safe, legal, and rare" and I am afraid the Huckster would stir the abortion debate into a froth. The abortion issue is really decided by the courts but by stirring it up moderates and independants would be pissed.

In a national campaign it would not take much effort for the dems to portray the Huckster as an ignorant backwoods boob religious fanatic. (By stating that Jonah really did live in the belly of the big fish or stating that all the earths animals really did fit on the ark plus his anti evolution stance.) While the bible belt may be enthused about such a cadidate it would turn off the rest of the country and the Huckster would go down in smoking flames.

I don't know who I'll vote for, but I am offended at my beliefs being ridiculed (because I believe in the Bible).  I suppose I'm just an ignorant, backwoods, professional engineer with a Master's Degree from Tulane University....something I earned while working 7on and 7off stints offshore....but hey..you made it clear my beliefs are stupid I'm certain you would not say that without "enlightenment".  Forget I deal with sedimentary geology nearly every day and that many of the "truths" schools and media purports are actually unproven scientific theories as are their "truthful" cries that the 2nd Ammendment is not an individual right.

What are your beliefs...other than belief in the Bible is stupid and murder in the womb is OK?
Necessity is the plea for every infringement of human freedom.
It is the argument of tyrants; it is the creed of slaves.

What are your beliefs...

I am not "religious", although I believe in a Creator, God, whatever you call it. Sadly, religion seems to be at the center of so much contention...if you don't call Him God- call him Allah, then you're no good. If you don't believe in this, but you do believe in that, then you're going to hell....it's all a bit unamerican. I can see why the forefathers sought to keep any religion from becoming "official".

If Huckabee is president and wants to change things to reflect his beliefs that's a GOOD THING. Don't forget how many millions of us there are...just because he has ideas doesn't mean he'll change the world. But America was founded on the people having differing opinions and pursuing their beliefs. If the majority wants to go his way we will. if not, he'll give it a good try and say he tried.

My own personal belief is that a person in the White House with SOME values and integrity is better than someone in there with NO integrity and only values their own advancement. Or worse yet, lining their pockets. So bring on the Christians- can they be any worse leaders than the money grubbing slugs we've seen in government?

The other thing that bothers me about this conversation is it's very similar to the 2nd amendment discussion. Pro gunners are like the Christians...steadfast in their beliefs and quick to defend their ideals. The unreligious or atheists or agnostics or whatever remind me of the anti gun lobby. When all else fails, insult your opponent and ridicule their beliefs.

Remember when the world was flat and the sun revolved around the earth? Now THAT was science!

I agree with Jaybethel, This country was built on religious freedom. Saying you won't vote for someone just for there religion goes against what the creators of this great nation had in mind. If you don't agree with his policy or something like that, then thats a reason not to vote for him. But I personaly don't think his beliefs should be the sole reason to rule him out. But then again thats just my personal opinion. It's a free country.

A bird in the hand is worth..Well, about a box of shells!
Yes, I'm bitter and cling to guns and religion..

You hit it right on the head sister!!! You may not get to vote for the person that you really want, but (MY GOD!! VOTE FOR THE REPUBLICAN THAT IS ON THE BALLOT!!!!!!!) The alternative is VERY-VERY BAD!!!!

It is not that easy... Who would you rather have?  Richardson or Guiliani?  and IMO it is that narrow view that has gotten our country into so much trouble.  We need to look at candidates not parties.  The Republicans were in power for years and we didn't get anything from them.  All parties only call on us when they want our support.

I'm talking about wasting votes! Go ahead vote for a third party see where that gets you! You think Richardson is more on our side? Remember if Richardson would get his party's nod (WHiCH HE WON"T!!) he would tow the party line which is not friendly to gun people! No Guilani is not warm and fuzzy about guns, but again he would tow the party line! Yes the republicans have been in power, and no we didn't get much from them. But we didn't lose much either! Do you think that would be the case if the Dems are in control? The real question is which party do you want in control of your gun rights?

According to the last election results the Democraps are in power right now. AND, you'll notice, they've spent all their political capital chasing petty annoyance issues and issuing pissy statements that sound like a junior high problem. As long as the NRA is as big as an 800 lb. gorilla, they won't do anything that will rock the gravy boat. Why risk all that free stuff and power when you can just spread bullshit and keep raking it in?
Gee, that sounded a little cynical.

Yes, they are in control of congress. So do we really want Billary or Osama-bamma casting the final vote? ( What I mean by vote is the final nail in our Gun Rights coffin!)

ABSOLUTELY NOT!!! Vote Second Amendment. If they take one right they'll take them all.

Why Huckabee is not qualified to be prez because of his religious views:

I have lived my entire life in the bible belt as a lone island surrounded by a sea of Fundamentalist Southern Baptists (poetic exageration there). If SB would go to church on Sunday and keep their religious beliefs to themselves I wouldn't have a problem with Hucksters faith. But Activist Fundamentalist SB want to impose their world view upon the country at large and I have a very big problem with that.

1) Hucksters non belief in evolution is typical of FSB denial of science. Evolution is one of the most supported theories in science but FSB like to pretend that is not so and that the earth and life were created literally in six days. FSB are not content with teaching this among themselves but actively lobby for creationism/ID to be taught in schools as an "alternative theory". Huckster, as prez, would be in a position by making appointments, to create havoc in science funding in this country and to push for creationism/ID in public schools.

2) I have never met a FSB who didn't support "school prayer". Again, this amounts to imposing their religion upon the whole of society.

3) Polls consistently indicate that some 2/3 of the public do not want abortion made illegal. FSB not only want abortion made illegal but they use the term "murder" to describe abortion. FSB again want to impose their religious worldview upon a majority. About the only thing Clinton got right was "abortion should be safe, legal, and rare".

4) Huckster WOULD be made to look an ignorant backwoods boob with his evoulution denial. Fundamentalists stopped voting Democrat with Reagan so the Dems would have no reason not to hit Huckster on this issue. Read about how foolish Bryan was made to look when questioned by Darrow at the "Scopes Monkey Trial".

5) FSB try to censor media like movies, TV, etc in the name of decency and family values. There they are again trying to impose their worldview upon society at large.

6) Marshall'ette and other women forum members should do some searching on the net about how FSB view the role of women in society. You probably won't like what you find.

I have been called a religious bigot. My only problem with religion is when its faithful try to impose their world view upon me. If that makes me a bigot then I guess I plead guilty.

FSB are themselves intolerant of other religions. I have seen some of their anti mormon literature. Catholics, because they aren't born again, are doomed to hell. In short, if you ain't SB you ain't gonna make into valhalla.

For those who do not know any Activist Fundamentalists religious types you really should do some net searching.
