Hog Hunt III
« on: September 14, 2009, 08:09:19 AM »
Went hog huntin on Sunday with Crusader Rabbit and HazJr.  We started in stands at zero dark early and sat until about 8:30.

Skeeters were thick and BIG!  I saw a bunch of cardinals, couple of squirrels and one fawn.  Other than that I have bug bites to show for it!

Crusader got his hog during this time...I'll let him tell ya about it.

When the guide came around to pick us up he got me first, then we picked up HazJr (also nada) then Crusader who had one on the ground. So a decision had to be made of how many more we would get and who and how they would be taken.

HazJr wanted to run with the dogs and take one by stabbin so I decided two hogs would fill the freezers and after that I was along for the ride.

Wasn't very long and the dogs were hot on the trail of a pig and then we heard 'em baying and the pig squealing.  The dogs grab 'em one in front by the ears and one in back by the leg.  These dogs are TOUGH!

We go crashing through the brush and the guide grabs the pig by the hind legs.  We get the dogs out (damn hard to get em to let loose!) and HazJr steps in on the pigs head and puts that 18 inches of bayonet right behind the shoulder and shoves.  It squealed like a....well, it squealed a lot. ;)  and starts to jerk and twitch.  HazJr twists the blade but the sob will not die!  He pulls out, lines up again and sticks that blade clear through!  DRT!

+100 to Haz junior. I went through that weirdness when I was his age (note to junior, we old farts use guns for a reason) and I survived. I'm glad he's safe. Just remind him that its a great story to tell the guys, the chicks, not so much. BUT, if he finds a girl who's into it...... ;D

They seemed to be a mixture of breeds.  All hunting bread but some looked to be part bull or pit and some seemed to be part lab or other retriever.  All friendly and loved doing what they did.  I really like watching them work.
