FQ, you are missing the point entirely. We are individualists, we don't give a rats butt what any one does in their personal life. What we object to is being forced to accept things we find offensive and getting stuck with the bill through our taxes.
The thing that made America great over the first 200 years of its history was that our mind set was different than Europe, in that the state answers to the people, not the other way around. That is the very essence of the 2A. You CAN NOT advocate both the supremecy of the state, AND the right to arms, they are mutually exclusive.
Those Social liberals who wish to IMPOSE State supremacy should go to one of the many countries where that model has already been put in place. ( and failed ) I hear Cuba is nice.

FQ, I meant nothing derogatory to the two new gun owners.  I was referring to the crappy policies in my home state of New York.

I don't think he was refering to your comment Salty.  I think, (and this is me thinking now not necessarilly a good thing  ;D), that he was pointing out that there ARE folks on the other side that DO believe in the Consitution as written.  They may interpret it a little differently than we do but there are Americans on the left.  Just damn few of them....

Yup! And not so few as you'd think, its just that for most the 2A isn't really an issue, so they don't focus on it. It gives us room to recruit. Every pro-gun lib is worth 5 pro-gun GOPers as it dilutes the anti-2A litmus test in the Dem base. They used to make being pro-choice such a test. They now support a number of pro-life dems. The pro-2A dems can make 2a (more) mainstream and less of a partisan issue.

To me, the most amazing thing is that The Times Union, or Times Useless as I often call it, ran what I consider to be not a completely negative second amendment piece. Seemed reasonably fact based.

Took 3 months to get my CCW permit 'restricted to hunting and target shooting' in Albany County. And I was clearly one of the statistics in this article having added three ammendments to my permit since November.

And FQ I totally agree the more the merrier on the Pro2A thing.

I think the million plus per month new gun owners are doing that quite nicely.
As to the other, I will confess to using the terms "liberal" and "socialist" interchangeably. When in fact that is not the case. Being "Liberal" technically is more akin to being a libertarian, and is in fact closer to many of the beliefs of members here. The "socialists" that we all hate are more accurately defined as "Statists" who very illiberally, want every aspect of life strictly controlled by by an Elitist government that "knows what's best".
Those are the ones we need to drag out and hang.

Yes and it is such a wonderful experience.

Get fingerprinted(Several Copies) Get to list four folks as references and they must SIGN the application. Have the state obtain your military records and call on your neighbors and family to ask about your stability and if THEY approve of your possession of a handgun. Undergo an interview. Generally get treated like a criminal and pay a few dollars to the local PD.

And then you can only own a handgun, not carry it without a lot of BS. And every handgun is listed on your license by serial number, don't get caught with a handgun not listed. And you must have a permit to even handle a handgun, your wife breaks the law if you let her shoot and she does not have a permit.

Go into a gun shop and want to look at a handgun, you better have a license and show it to the folks behind the counter.

Unless you live in a rural county upstate and you contribute to the local judge's election fund, forget about a carry permit.

A little known fact is that Rudie Giuliani revoked almost all the carry permits in NYC when he took over as EmperorMayor of NYC. Only folks with influence (Celebrities) can have carry permits now.

NY State is a Third world country. You are treated like a subject not a Citizen.

When I applied my file was over an inch thick stamped in big red letters NO RECORD. They did more thorough check that I got when I obtained a security clearance in the Army!

Then the process of buying a handgun. Get Serial number and info from gun shop (Naturally they want to be paid up front) Go to PD or Sheriffs dept with info. Pay fee to register gun, take paperwork back to gun shop, then take paperwork and gun back to PD for them to check, enter on your license and generally treat you  like poop.

GOD BLESS TEXAS!!!! 8) Reaffirms my desire to never go to or EVER live in NY.
