Zazi Detention Memo

An interesting PDF for those who question the menace of the recent terrorism arrest. It also puts the significance of the "scale and batteries" into perspective.

The[1] Justice Department filed a memo today making the case for
detaining terrorist suspect Najibullah Zazi. It's a pretty riveting
read. Of particular interest to me was the important role of computer
forensics. By analyzing Zazi's computer, the government was able to
reconstruct Zazi's web browsing history and show the details of the
alleged plot to gather the chemicals for the bomb. I'm not at all
surprised by the role of the computer search, but it's a high-profile
example of how computer forensics is becoming an increasingly
important part of important criminal cases.

Tom,

I was just watching a segment on the news where they caught him buying hair rollers, shower cap and hydrogen peroxide at a beauty supply store.

We sure are getting some hard evidence to go along with the AA batteries and the scale.

I think i should be worried.

Read the PDF, the Peroxide and Nail polish remover (acetone ) are precursor chemicals for the explosives that were used in London train bombings.
It's the equivalent of some one having a recipe for blackpowder, a scale, mortar and pestle, and then going out and buying charcoal, sulfur and saltpeter.

Tom, I'm not arguing with you over their guilt or innocence.

My point is that in my job I often browse for many of those same items so if they searched my work computer they could find the same "evidence".

I browsed the PDF but I'm also trying to watch a new show (Flash Forward) on TV at the same time.

Having the information is one thing, I've got a copy of "the poor mans James Bond" that has some even better recipes, where he crossed the line into criminal conspiracy was by he and his friends buying large quantities of precursor chemicals they had no other legitimate excuse for.
