Opinion on Springfield XDm
« on: October 06, 2009, 04:36:29 PM »
Just purchased a new Sprindfield XDm .40S&W. Really liking it so far. Really smooth trigger for what it is and ergonomics are perfectly suited for my handtype out of the box. Have been in the market for a polymer pistol for awhile for a carry gun. A recent breakin at my home while I was in the hospital claimed my favorite old carry piece. A blued 4" S&W 586. Sick over the loss of my favorite slick lil DA I decided it was time to buy a new piece. All the controls and ease of disassembly and pointability of the XDm have given me a good first impression. The downside I've found with it is it is a pain to reload mags without the supplied reloader. And of course I'd like to had it in 45acp. Have long been fond of Glocks but just have never found one that fit me like the XD. And the cost of a quality 1911 and the rough life this carry/truck gun will live I just couldn't justify the colt or kimber.

I'm by no means posting about this purchase to reaffirm that I made the right decision. I haven't had a chance to put several rounds downrange and was curious about the opinions of those that have. Not interested in the gun snobbery type debate bjust personal experience type opinions

I fondled one once, but was not really blown away by it. I really like what they have done with the expanded mag capacity........ The sights are also really nice, and all the free gear is a nice bonus.

something that I think is very, very good...

you no longer have to pull the trigger to field strip the gun.   That is not the case with glock at the normal xd

I checked one out at the NRA convention and I'd like to have one, but it won't be offered in CA. It would need to have a labeled chamber loaded indictor and a magazine disconnect - oh yeah, and 10 round magazines. All that just to be eligible for the drop tests in this jackboot thug state. :-\

Looked hard at the XD, but went with the M+P .40 for the ambi mag release, and grip. Shot the 9 and .40 XD's and its a fine pistol.

If it feels good to you, suits your application and intended use, it is a good one to have, no question.

That is why our masters in Washington are so anxious to disarm us. They are not afraid of criminals. They are afraid of a populace which cannot be subdued by tyrants."

I have an XDm 40 and have been very pleased with it.  I have used it in several training classes over the last 6 months and never had a malfunction of any kind.  It runs well in the rain, the grit, and the mud.  3000 rounds later it is still very accurate.  My only complaint is that the trigger pull could be a little smoother, but it has smoothed out some since I got it.

have you ever used a 33 round mag in a glock?  They are useless.
